I'm quite low today, it would have been my father's birthday yesterday, he would have been 98 he died in 1993, my mother died in 1998, and I always feel it a lot more around this time of year. I live on my own, my family have their own families, so there's just me.

@Debra# Hello Debra#, thank you for opening this discussion and sharing what you're going through. I'm sorry for your loss, some say that grief and the heart heal with time, but I agree with you that some times of the year can make our feelings of loss more apparent. And these times that we are living through certainly do not make things easier. Please know that our community is here to support you!

Let me tag some members who can maybe share their experiences or words of support with you.

Hello all, how are you doing? Does this time of year ever make you feel more low or sad, or nostalgic for past times? Does it worsen your grief? How do you cope with it?

Distraction is good. You could try getting some bereavement counselling. Best wishes

Yes, it is a very hard time for me. I am alone this year so I will be working,  I also find talking to a counsellor is  very helpful.  These don't take the  pain away but do help to either distract or ease it.  It is so important to have some kind of support system that you can turn to, be it counsellors, family or friends.  When I was in a very dark place last year December I called the Samaritans. With one call I felt stronger and able to carry on.

@Debra# I've been struggling with this myself as well. Everything seems dark. I've found a bit of comfort in a counsellor like others have said and then coming on here to talk to others from time to time has helped.
