Hi everyone,

Not everyone realizes that depression doesn’t always look like sadness. For many, it shows up as anger, irritability, or frustration, especially with loved ones.

  • Does depression make you feel more irritable or short-tempered?
  • How do you manage those feelings when they show up?
  • Have your relationships been affected by this side of depression?

I can definitely relate to this. My depression doesn’t always show up as sadness either, sometimes it’s more irritability or feeling on edge. I’ve noticed it can affect my relationships because I sometimes withdraw or become a bit short-tempered without meaning to.

@sodowninsurrey I totally get what you mean. It all just spills out onto my mum without me meaning to. I want her to listen, not try to come up with solutions to everything. I know she’s only trying to help, but when we're in it I just can’t seem to hold it in, and then I feel awful afterwards for snapping.

It's hard to be kind and not snap when I'm stared at constantly and have been told so many horrible things about my skin.
Then I tell myself I'm being kind for me, not for them.

I do get really snappy when I’m not feeling good. My family is fantastic and they know to stay out of my way. Lol. I lie on my bed with my radio on and it helps me to calm down. Hope this helps other people on the forum try’s this it does really work.

Yes I think I have a split personality as I can be nice to people and nasty to my fiance. I have an unstable emotional personality disorder also PTSD which affects my depression and find it difficult to deal with
