Hello everyone, I am new to the site and I've found it really interesting and useful. I wanted to start a new discussion, hope to do it right.
Every day is different in the company of this disease, sometimes we have "small wins" over 'her', by actions that seem quite common in healthy people, but for us are "almost miracles" ... Outings, leisure, sport, return to work, docs' appointment...
I do not know if this is the right place for it , but I propose that this discussion turns into a place where we can talk about our "small victories of the day", where we come and can express freely what sometimes others don't get or see as a great achievemet...

Sorry to 'barge' in guys but I can't help to let you know that I find out this conversation really amazing and with a lot of potential :) and second thing, @Yank34 I can never get tired of your stories!!! They are always so well written and interesting!!! I imagine you had an incredible time out there :) I'm glad :)

I don't have MS but if you let me I want to share my victory of the day, I finally went swimming. I really needed it because of a back problem I have and I resisted and resisted till I decided it was crazy not to take care of myself just because of stupid excuses and fears. So I hope it really helps :)

Have a great day guys!

All the best,

Gilda

Please feel free to "jump in" anytime Gilda - I'm sure others, like myself, love you sharing your thoughts and experiences just like we do - aren't we all in this together??????????  So proud of you for overcoming your fears - we certainly all have these and should celebrate every positive step we take because it's certainly not always easy to do but serves to confirm we are still determined and just may be stronger than we think!!

Have a great day everyone and hopefully can always look forward to having many more.

Ann x

My massive victory yesterday was although my 1st journey, on my own, to visit my husband @Robert Jopnes and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital - 1 hr away from home, actually took me 2 hrs (missed a "turning" and went everywhere but where I should have been!), NEVER panicked and on my return journey, identified where I went WRONG!  Also totally ignored my GPS (when I knew better than it, which has really boosted my personal confidence!!!!) as in the past, placed implicit faith in it which has really caused HUGE problems. YIPPEE - after all these years and although still not known for my sense of direction, now getting better!!!!  Hope the sun is shining where you are, as it is here and hope everyone had a great day. x

Hello everyone! Love to see the discussion has more comments and great stories. @Yank34 you are awesome, I get lost sometimes even with the GPS lol so I think that was a great achievement :)

My victory of the day was to go back to my singing lessons. I love to sing but I stoped as soon as I got my diagnosis, I thought it was going to be super hard and also I had trouble sometimes remembering the lyrics, but I think this site has heped me to have some courage and to want to go back to doing the things I love before geting diagnosed. SO hopefully everything is going to go wll and I'll keep enjoying my singing lessons :)

Have a great x

I haven't been "on" Carenity for awhile as have been pretty busy, to say the least (!) following picking my husband up from Oswestry Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) after his total left knee replacement.  I think him being 6'6'' tall and myself being about 4'10'' (?) probably hasn't helped either of us, especially as his leg was sooooooooo swollen and sooooooooo bruised.  To help his recovery, he has been exercising as much as possible in 1 of our reclining chairs (which he's also having to sleep in downstairs) and have been alternating massage and ice packs as much as I'm  physically able to!  Have been managing my MS pretty well until this last week - think all the extra physical activities I've had no choice but to perform, eventually has taken its' toll but hoping the "worse is over"!!!!!!!!!  Took me over 3 hours to do some shopping in town early this morning (not helped, I guess by experiencing pretty bad "brain fog" i.e. having to keep checking what I was looking for on my list, having to "backtrack" a lot, keep going back to the car with packages and forgetting where the various places I needed to go were actually located (!!!!!!!) but DID IT!  Granted I needed more than a 2 hour sleep in bed afterwards (due to so many muscle spasms, pain, "twitches" and FATIGUE) haven't done almost anything else today except had to go out shopping around 6pm to yet another supermarket to get some things I couldn't get on my earlier sojourn! Although the kitchen is going to have to stay a mess/battle zone until tomorrow, managed to make a light, easy evening meal for us both and tomorrow, hoping to have enough energy, less pain and disability than I have now (like I have to do before!).  "Tomorrow is another day" and as long as we all remember that, it's ok when we're just not able to do things because tomorrow or the next day or the following day, we may/will be able to do it!!!  As long as we NEVER, EVER give up, we will always be victorious!  xx

Although I sometimes feel I contribute too much, just had to share the most marvelous "victory"!  Now so used to "losing/misplacing" items on a daily basis, finally found the cordless phone that I "lost" almost a year ago!!!  I had conducted the most thorough search when it was initially lost but a few days ago, with my recently re-gained "determined head on", used a torch to explore all of the out of the way places it could have I.e. under and behind all the beds, cupboards etc, without any luck.  Yesterday, decided I would re-organise my many shoes and to my utter surprise, found the "lost cordless phone, clearly in sight, within 1 of them! It had been right under my eyes all the time but who looks in a shoe unless needing to move it or put it on?  Miracles never cease!

Hi everyone,

I think we need to revive this great discussion! Keep on sharing your victories of the day, I'm sure they are plenty! :) This will help others believe in themselves and find strength to go on fighting the disease.

Thanks and have a great day!

Hi everyone, I'm very new to this and I have enjoyed reading this thread. I love the idea of the 'victories of the day' it has certainly given me a new goal to aim for, instead of getting depressed by looking at all the things that need doing round the house and garden. I will find one thing that is achievable, and I will enjoy doing it, then if I feel up to it I will find another! possibly have a little sit down and a coffee between tasks, but not beat myself up because the kitchen floor hasn't been mopped or the dishwasher emptied.

Tomorrow I am going to bath my 2 dogs, I will enjoy that but it will take a long time , luckily I can sit down while I bath and dry them (I have a little room set up for drying and grooming) you may have guessed from my user name that my dogs are Papillons (Butterfly dogs) and I take them to shows up and down the country. I can no longer take them round the ring myself as I just can't walk fast enough and I get very 'wobbly' so a friend handles them for me (a bit frustrating, but at least I can still get to the shows and I do enjoy seeing my boys strutting their stuff!)

It's the dogs that keep me going and keep me positive.

I like anything that gives me a more positive outlook on life, I feel that a lot can be achieved by positive mental attitude... so my motto is:

In the future, things may get difficult ....... But Not Today !!!

And on Thursday, we are off to another dog show in Darlington....wish us luck :) :) :) xx
