Hi. No you can buy them over the counter. Last time I ordered mine on line through boots and they were on offer.

i agree that different things work for different people and even at different times.  They don't work all the time for me but they're just one of many things to have as back up.  And they're easy and non obtrusive especially when travelling.

x

I have Epsom Salt baths on a regular basis, particularly Winter months.   About a mug full in the bath and soak for about 15 -20 mins.  Feels lovely !

Also use a heat pad for muscle tension in addition to any gel to specific areas or painkiller when really needed.

Hello Everyone,

I have severe arthritis in both my knees and at night I just can't sleep for the pain. I can cope better during the day but night time is a misery. I have tried all kinds of ointments and lotions and have been prescribed Zapain for the pain. The only thing I use, and only occasionally, having read about it's ill effects on the heart, is Ibuprofen which seems to help with the swelling and inflammation. Does anyone have any views on Ibuprofen or any other remedies. I would be grateful for any advice.

Thank you, Annie8

Hi All,

I have suffered from osteoarthritis in my left knee now for over 20 years - a legacy of a rugby injury. I exercise every morning to include a lot of stretching the knee but I do avoid knee bends. This loosens up my whole body and I can get through the day without pain. Walking a long distance has it's problems but I have managed this condition now for all these years. I avoid prescription drugs and use Tumeric, Ginger and take fish liver oils and glucosamine as dietary supplements. I am free from pain at night and the exercise really gets me through the day. 10 years ago the surgeon recommended a knee replacement but was astounded how strong my knee was considering the condition of the joint as shown on the X-ray. I expect that one day I might have to have that replacement but so far I am in control of my condition. Hope this may inspire some of you to try some remedies for your self without relying on prescription drugs - that the body soon gets a tolerance to. Good Luck to all. Nelson.E.Ward

Hello Everyone emoticon blush.

Reg. 61years of age. OA in knees, right hip, shoulders, wrists and spine with 'S' Scoliosis. How I manage pain.

My start in the ‘Fitness Industry’ came in 1981 when I joined the Ron Judge Gymnasium in London. Ron was a British Champion power lifter and I built a good foundation for my career working for him and becoming manager of the gym after I obtained my NABBA diploma in 1982.
Over the years I picked up skills (and injuries) in a variety of martial arts.
I was diagnosed in 1988 with longstanding bilateral spondylolysis of the 5th lumbar vertebra and degenerative changes in my lumbar spine. The consultant told me NOT to lift weights anymore and to consider fusing my vertebrae. As I had already helped many people in the gym with rehabilitative exercise for specific problems; being diagnosed thus prompted me to undertake a more in-depth study of such matters in order to deal with it myself and reject the surgery.
I studied with the Northern Institute and for personal reasons left and decided to continue my studies with LaRoche and my own ongoing research.
My studies encompassed modalities in Acupressure; Electro Acupressure; Intra-sound; Remedial Massage; TNS and Nutrition.

I set up my own Practice in Remedial Therapy and helped people from all walks of life including Strength Athletes; Olympic Athletes and ‘everyday people’ from youngsters to pensioners.

Shortly after 2004 I was diagnosed with IBS and a Hiatus Hernia.

Emigrating from the UK to the Czech Republic I continued my activities in the ‘Fitness Industry’ becoming a qualified member of the International Fitness Association and registered as EQF level 4 Personal Trainer with EREPS . In 2012 it was suggested that I might like to consider knee joint replacement. No thank you !

Returning to the UK after a few years ( 2014). I was then diagnosed with COPD and in 2016 with Scoliosis . A further challenge for me to deal with. Having ‘dabbled’ in Yoga for many years; I decided to take a Yoga Teaching course; an AMAC CBE course and updated my Acupressure skills with a fresh Diploma . Taking a keen interest in EFT, I study the Official EFT Gold Standard as founded by Gary Craig. I also contacted Arthritis Care to see if I could help in any way. I am hoping to establish a self-help group in Redcar I have ideas about Chair-based Exercise; cycling and have interesting fun meetings.

Nearly thirty years after diagnosis; I continue to lift and have recently ‘stepped up’ my training program. I practice Yoga two or three times a week. Self-treat with Electro-Acupressure and EFT . I also find Inversion Therapy useful. In January 2017 I decided to start cycling again. The first few rides of 10 miles were very challenging on my knees but after just a few weeks I have found that the therapies I am using have proved to be very effective and my most recent rides have been pain-free.

2017. I am now on the register of the International Institute for Complementary Therapists. Who knows ? Maybe I’ll come out of retirement and set up a practice once more.

Have a sunny day,

Reg.

Hi I would just like to share my experience it may not be everyone's cup of tea!! First a bit of my history I have osteoarthritis in most of my joints, spondilosis at both ends of my spine(excuse spellings I am also dyslexic!!) torn rotator cuff both shoulders(which most days it was painful just to hold my head up!) IBS underactive thyroid, had most of my face rebuilt due to cancer, fibomiralga to name just a few of my problems!!! So as you can imagain I was in horrific pain most of the time taking tramadol & gabapentin and had wore a corsett shoulder,  straps knee supports,I needed help to get around, in & out of bed etc. I tried every heat pad, tens, topical creams etc. I even tried marijuana(that did help a bit with sleep) I had both my hips replaced but did not improve my mobility because of my other problems!!!! I was willing to try anything as you can imagain I was also very down with not being able to get out, I had always been an active person & I was only 48 when I had the first hip replacement it went down hill from there!!!  I disscovered a thing called Quantum Healing Hypnosis Treatment so I found a therapist in my area(like I say it might not be for everyone) but it is the best thing I have ever done!! The actually day of the treatment my knee pain dissapeared!!  It's not a magic cure that will make everything dissapear!! I still have some pain in my back & neck (it is quite badly deteriorated) but it is bearable now, I can now walk much better & hold my head up, I have been able to really cut back on the pain killers, I am still tired(I have years of sleep to catch up on lol) but I have been able to get in a bath for the first time in years & Im driving again :-) it wasn't cheap!! but worth every penny to have some kind of life back again
