Hello everyone,

How are you doing today?

Lumbar spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal in the lower part of your back. Stenosis, which means narrowing, can cause pressure on your spinal cord or the nerves that go from your spinal cord to your muscles. Spinal stenosis can happen in any part of your spine but is most common in the lower back.

The most common cause of spinal stenosis is osteoarthritis, the gradual wear and tear that happens to your joints over time.

Symptoms may include:

Back pain, Burning pain going into the buttocks and down into the legs (sciatica), Numbness, tingling, cramping, or weakness in the legs. Loss of sensation in the feet, and foot drop.

Does any one have Spinal Stenosis? Do you find it hard to walk, sit, and preform other activities? How do you cope? What have your doctors recommended?

@jamesm I also have spinal stenosis with much the same symptoms, I have pains in leg bones plus water retention p.
I can only walk for a short time as all of this upsets my hips which then becomes extremely painful and then excruciating and don’t even think about sitting, the things that make life bearable are HSL chair and bed.

I have it in parts of my back but mostly in my neck. Very painful. Consultant said that I could easily end up in a wheelchair, so he wouldn’t risk an op. Just have to put up with it, like most people with osteoarthritis..

I have Spinal Stenosis, I had an MRI and was not given the results some time later I went for a pre assessment before an operation and the nurse said ‘it’s important that the anaesthetist knows about your spinal stenosis’ I said I had not been told I had that and she was able to point out where it was in my notes. Apparently it showed up on the MRI. I have a lot of spinal pain, sitting is painful as is lying on my back at times.
I also have a Ankylosing Spondylitis and Cervical Spondylitis. Polymyalgia and EDS.
some days I want to give up. :/ x
