Hello everyone,

Being diagnosed with osteoarthritis can take some time depending on what symptoms you have, your doctor and your ability to attend frequent medical appointments.

I started in 2012 with my GP telling me I had fybromialgia.

It wasnt, I was massively vitamin D deficient. I had to ask for this blood test !.

That then caused osteopenia, now I have osteoarthritis.

Last dexa showed hip bones like a honeycomb sweet and it's in my right hip,neck and femur .

My GP looked at my fingers and said you have Osteo arthritis. That was a few years ago. When I had problems with my knees a year ago I had an X-ray from which I was told I had Osteo arthritis grade severe and when it got too bad they would refer me to a specialist. I haven't been offered pain relief or injections and no one has looked at my knees. I am now finding walking very difficult, going up and down stairs etc difficult and I am on the waiting list for knee replacement.

@JosephineO

I was under a specialist for many years who, because of my age when symptoms arose (18) thought i was making them up... i have mild scoliosis, tilted pelvis so constant bruised pain and inflammation, cervical spondylosis... diagnosed with osteoarthritis 10 years ago ( i am now 51) and 3 years ago costochondritis which affects my asthma.

I knew from the age of 15 I had issues but no one believed me!!!!

I was lucky, my doctor sent me for an xray , on the results of that he referred me to the Rheumatology department. All in all it took about six months. I had problems long before going to doctor, so my advice to others is don't wait too long,

I suffer with muscle spasms in lower back which is still painful. I requested help with either xrays or massage. The doctor referred me for Physio.

I tried physio for 6 weeks which made it worse and told them to report back to the doctor that it wasn't effective. In the meantime, I explained epilepsy medications and HRT were known to cause bone deterioration.

Once the report was received by the Doctor, I was sent for a Dexa scan in November 2018 which picked up both Osteoporosis and Osteopenia.

The process in total took approximately 3 months.
