Osteoarthritis affects different joints: knees, hip, lower back, toes, fingers and neck. Each of these types demands a different approach in treatment and has a special impact on the patient's everyday life.

So, in this discussion, I suggest you mention the joint affected by your osteoarthritis, in order to find people in the exact same situation as you and be able to share more effectively.

This way you will be able to help  and support each other emoticon wink

Knees, feet and hands.  I have used ibugel, vicks vapo rub, comfrey ointment and tiger balm, not all in the same day or week, but I switch periodically.  All seem to ease the discomfort to a certain extent.  Wearing fingerless gloves inside when I have pain in my hands also helps, keeping the joint warm on cooler days I find helps and cooling the joint in warmer / hot weather days.

Hi there, I have OA in practically all the places listed.

I am on Tramadol, Co-Codamal, another drug that is for treating fits but can also help with my back pain.

To start my day I have to take all of the above pain killers and it takes a while before I can start moving around, but as the pain eases so I become more active.

I am 70 and have only recently retired from work as I didn't want to veggitate at home, but I finally gave in and luckily my wife makes sure I dont just mope around the house.

I think if my back wasn't so bad I would get around better however despite all I do take my dog out twice a day rather slowly though.

So I would love to find a drug that takes all my aches and pains away particularly my back but I don't think one exists.

@Lolypoly hi, I am the same age as you & seem to have the same problems! I had torn rotator cuff operated on last year, then my left hip (I had my right on replaced some years ago) replaced a few months later! The ops were both apparently successful! Though because of my shoulder it was impossible for me to use crutches! I don't know about you but I keep being told I am too young to have all these problems(which doesn't help lol) They tell me my spine is degenerating & I have been put on  botox injections, they are some relief I can turn my head a bit now & am starting a pain management course in the New Year as now they are telling me I have to accept that it is never going to get better I just have to now learn how to cope with it! (I am aslo waiting to see neurologist) I find meditation helps me cope & being able to talk to people who understand what the pain & constent exhaustion feels like(on forms like this!) You really need to pace yourself & let people know if you aren't coping! Which I have always found hard I don't like to feel I am moaning lol. What job do you do? I am lucky enough to have a job at home & a boss that understands Im not always able to work! It has been hard to accept I can't do the things I used to do!(I was always very active!) & even harder to get the people around me to realise this! But just do what you can when you can, life will never be the same again it may sound corny but positive thinking does help xx

@rose19   There’s a rub you can get from a Farm Supply shop called Muscle Rub. White plastic bottle with hook handle, black and red writing. It’s used for cows udders when muscles are sore.

i laughed at first, but it’s stinks of wintergreen which was used in many muscular creams.

it works and easy applied.
