Hi everyone,

How are you doing?

Though studies on the matter have produced mixed results, many people living with with rheumatic conditions like rheumatoid arthritis feel that their pain is influenced by the weather. For some, rainy or stormy conditions (like a thunderstorm) increase pain, and for others, changes in temperature (from cold to warm, or warm to cold) increase their pain.

What about you? Do you feel like weather or temperature influence your RA pain levels? If so, is there anything you can do to ease the pain?

I am badly affected by the weather at present. When I first presented with rheumatoid arthritis the weather didn’t affect me to much but ten years on there as been a marked change so if it’s cold, damp or rainy I do seem to be in more pain. more general stiffness and find I can’t move as well. I absolutely dread the cold spells now knowing how much and how deeply it affects my mobility. Even at a young age I had already made the connection with the weather as my knees used to hurt. My parents said growing pains but I knew it wasn’t and I used to take soluble aspirin and after half an hour it was gone.

Amazingly when I moved down self it eventually disappeared and I had a relatively normal life for about 40 years before it showed up in a different format at age 54 when I hit the menopause. Since then I haven’t been able to that normality. I suspect I had it in a milder form when I was a child and the move down south to a warmer climate pushed it into remission for several years but I suspect I had a susceptibility to the illness

I'm definitely affected by the weather when it's raining also when it's cold my knees ache a lot more for a lot longer.

oh yes, I do have more pains when it gets cold or rainy. I also try to avoid draughts at home as it can bring on more pain. would be nice to move to a warmer country..

I feel the weather more in my knees especially when it's raining they tend to be a lot more stiff and get a lot sorer quicker
