How are you doing today?

RA commonly affects joints in the hands, wrists, and knees. RA commonly affects joints in the hands, wrists, and knees. In a joint with RA, the lining of the joint becomes inflamed, causing damage to joint tissue. This tissue damage can cause long-lasting or chronic pain, unsteadiness (lack of balance), and deformity (misshapenness).

Where do you have your RA pain? Is it in several joints? Is there just one "hot spot"?

My knees, ankles, hands and wrists are the main affected areas. I have recently been issued with two sticks to aid my walking. They are the type that have the shaped handles so they don’t cause more pain in my hands. I can’t remember the name of the type of stick but they’ve been a great help and l am able to walk with confidence now and haven’t had a fall for several months.

With me, its everywhere, from my toes to my neck and everything in between; my knees are the parts which wake me up at night, burning and aching. My GP gave me Oramorph (liquid Morphine) to take when it's too bad to sleep, he called it breakthrough pain, because I already take Oxycodone and Nefopam. It helps take the pain away to be able to sleep.
