Hello everyone,

When talking about psoriasis it is difficult to talk about a treatment because till now there is not a permanent solution known. But there are some treatments that help to cope and have the condition under control. A common treatment is Phototherapy.

Does anyone uses Phototherapy as a treatment? What do you think about it?

All the Best

I am just about to start it next week and I hope it really helps because every time I go to the beach it gets better; so I think this will help :D

I'll keep you posted

I am doing phototherapy and it has helped me a lot. I hope it helps you too Greggy, cause for me it has been life changing. I still have itchy parts and some times flares, but in general it is a lot better!

I tried this therapy it helped to slow down my deterioration but did not improve it. I only had one slight side effect which was my skin feeling a little sore like I had a touch of sunburn but overall a pleasant therapy. defiantly the nicest and lowest risks treatment I have had.

Charlie it is true, I am starting to have a bit that sensation but it is a side effect I am trying not to care about cause it is really helping me in the overall. It is a shame that it didn't help you more, for me it is working :)

I had phototherapy two years ago on my hands and feet.  Although it improved the psoriasis at that time, subsequent bouts have been worse.  It seems that the treatment on my feet left me with feelings akin to frostbite and my feet flare up with extreme cold or extreme heat.  With my hands, I now get psoriasis under my finger nails and around the tips of my fingers and this is the worst because it is so limiting - I am not able to sew now or do any close up craft work.  That said, I would recommend the treatment but you need to be careful about the length of the course.

Ive untaken several courses of photo therapy. Its great if you need a quick fix, if you know your going on a beach holiday & you want to clear your Psoriasis within an 8-12 week period. However, my psoriasis has always come back after a few months of finishing the treatment!

@Georgia29 have you found something that has a more lasting effect? FOr the moment I am ok with this therapy but I am afraid it will fade away as you say

@alexss: I've been having phototherapy for a few years now and I have to say it's an ongoing thing - the effects tend indeed to fade away if you stop the treatment, but if you keep having sessions, which - if prescribed well and with great care (not overdoing it!!!) - are not invasive and have no side effects, you can keep the pso under control without any effort. As for the results, I couldn't be more happy, especially after having tried any and all alternatives available under the sun (no pun intended). :)

@charlie83: The touch of suburn came from the fact that you exceeded your MED. Or maybe it hadn't been calculated well from the start, that's also a possibility. Taking enormously great care when calculating your MED and then approaching its limit in very, very small steps is the only way of doing phototherapy right and without any risks (including sunburns). If you do it right, there will be absolutely no side effects.

Photo-therapy was probably the only treatment that actually made a substantial differences to my skin, lasting up to 2 months of clear skin. Unfortunately it went back to it's usual coverage soon after but I've heard plenty of stories of it working for long periods!

Hope you get some good relief!
