Hi, does anyone have any experience with metformin? I am getting terrible side effects (diarrhoea, sorry) and thinking of trying something else to control my blood sugar levels. Can anyone recommend other meds that works well? Any advice is appreciated!! thanks x

The benefit of the new injections is the side effects are weight loss, so all may not be lost. Although I must admit I would not like to go back to injecting myself my partner had to do it for me, self inflected wounding not my forte . Don't forget to inject into many different areas of your body so no hard areas appear!

I am on metformin 500 for diabetes Type2. I take 2 in the morning and 1 at night as well as Atorvastatin  for colesterol. I have always had a weight problem so I can't tell the difference because I'm on steroids and other medication that puts weight on. I find that drinking plenty of water and changing my diet to a reducing diet helps me not to put weight on. I either stay at one weight and sometimes I'm able to lose weight and exercises helps too. Diet and exercise will lower blood sugars, weight-loss, depression ect...ect...We have to fight to take control of ourselves. If you think about it, its just mind over matter!

Last year I was told by the diabetic nurse she was going to put me on Insullin and I refused to have that and took control of myself with help from the nurse. I still have problems controlling myself and my medication. My blood sugar was as high as 12.1 I now seem to hover around 5 or 6 sometimes, as high as 7 And my weight was as high as 296.lbs or 14 stones here in the UK. I did get my weight down to 160.lbs but put a lot of what I had lost back on though worry and stress over the last couple of years. So now I am fighting again to lose weight and to helpmy blood sugar and, my weight of course.

Best wishes Astra!

Hello. I have been taking Metformin for nearly 12 years now, the only side effect I suffer with is the Metallic taste. I take 2 x 500mg in the morning and 2 x 500mg in the evening. Plus 40 Units of Humulin i Insulin on a morning and 1 x 5mg Dapagliflozin in the evening. I have had Type 2 for almost 16 years. I recently had a Fibroscan because my LFT blood tests began to rise over the years, and I now have Fibrosis graded at 10 - I have an appointment to see a Liver Specialist in June. I believe my LFT elevations are due to me using Biological Drugs. Oh, I also suffer with Aneamia and take Ferrous Fumarate - but NOT everyday because they make me feel Nauseated, so take 1 tablet every other day. Have just recently had blood tests done for: Cholesterol, LFT, HBA1C, Ferritin Levels, Antinuclear Antibodies. Will get test results next week at the Hospital.

Hi,  I take 2x1000 daily and 1x850 metformin at night.  However unless I take it with meals I get an upset tummy,  so I always make sure I eat!

The night metformin is because my blood sugar rises during the night even if I havnt been eating ie blood levels taken before sleep will be lower than first thing in the morning.

hope this helps

All canned drinks and bottled waters have got hidden sugars. Tap water is better for you.
