I was put on Tramadol and Gabapentin together.  They worked well but made me so tired.  I tried to stop them but I was addicted.  Took me weeks to slowly cut down and eventually cut them both out.  I was then put on Co-codamol and even though I only took 2 doses a day, I was on them for 3 or 4 years.  You've guessed it, I got hooked on them too.  Even harder to get off but I did it in the end.  I now take self prescribed paracetamol and Ibuprofen.  They help a bit, but what else can I take?  Doctors don't seem interested.

I have been on Tramadol for over 10 years now, 6 a day. I was given them for the pain of pudendal neuralgia after an MS relapse. They work to a degree. Recently I have been having short term memory problems and I spoke to my GP about this. She said well what do you expect its what Tramadol does to you. NO ONE told me this when I was put on them. I have tried to cut back but yes you have guessed I am addicted. I get the shakes and most awful uncontrollable diarrhoea . The doctors wont help me to come off them. The National Neurological hospital in London want me on a different drug but my GP in Cambridgeshire refuses to put me on it. The guess its the cost. Why are they playing with our lives. I am only 60 and have become like someone with dementia, all due to Tramadol. I wish someone could help me

There is always a danger of addiction with Tramadol being in opiates group. You say that when you try to stop it, you get shakes and how long the shakes last. If you are taking 8 day, it is a massive dose. if you suddenly try to stop it, your body does not like it because you are addicted to it. It is not a good idea to suddenly drop them off. You have to wean yoursel off them gradually. The best way to stop it is by gradually reducing the dose week by week. Go down to 6 a day for a week, then 4, then 2 and finally one a day for a shot period. That way your body will get adjusted to a smaller dose till you finally give it up. I was on it for 5 years, but I am a nurse and i did not let myself get to the stage of addiction. I did not want to be dependent on them, so I self reduced them in a tapering dose, till I got to just 50 mg 1 a day, which i stayed on for a month. Then I decided to do without them and put them out of sight. It is now nearly 3 years since I had any, and am managing my pain with natural remedies such as Turmeric, Flaxeed, Omega 3 Cod Liver oil, Glucosamine sulphate MSM. Swimming and exercises etc I don't know what your pain is due to. Mine was a Spinal problem. Had 5 Spinal surgeries with a lot of metal work in my back.

Hope this help. Good luck.

I take two paracetamol and two tramadol 4 times  a day. That’s what my doctor told me to take. It doesn’t take the pain away but it make the pain manageable and I can cope with it.

I haven't had any issues with it, but another person in my support group got terribly sick off of it and had to stop taking it. I believe it's an opioid so one has to be very careful with dependency or addiction issues. It's a tricky thing

I had taken 50 m.g. two 4 times a day from 1988 until 2018. Now completed trials for Marol 150 m.g. Prolonged Release Tablets. Tramodol Hydrochloride  One morning and evening strictly adhering to dosage as more is dangerous overdose, and as none drinker No drinking Rules is O.K. I should stress this is in fact TRAMODOL with Name Change. Also larger dosage and Additional Powerful Strength.

I take 1 in the morning and 1 at night for the past 8 yrs it works perfectly for me as they are slow release 200mg per tablet I have learnt to manage the pain I know what I am able to do and what I can't it isn't totally pain free and days it don't work but keeping busy helps a lot and a lot of determination to not let this beat me I am now trying medical cannabis and i was pain free for 5 hrs it felt amazing I wouldn't take it often only when nothing else works I have had fibromyalgia for 12yrs and it's the first time I've had total relief from the disease  would recommend trying it

Yes I took tramadol from age 43 right through to age 71. I didn't take the correct amount. Before I had both hips replaced i did together with cocodamol. Use to take 1 in morning 1in evening. They didn't kill  the pain but made it more manageable. Wouldn't take too many as frightened I would become addicted. My doctor said u can't become addicted if u,are in pain and take them. I didn't believe her and eventually I was put on Bunorphine pain patches but suffer terrible rashes with them. I think tramadol worked better. I never became addicted and dropped them just like that.  If your careful with them they are fine. My friends husband took them and was really ill and my daughter took them when her back went and they made her violently sick so maybe it is your metalobism.

I AGREE. THEY DON`T TAKE THE PAIN AWAY. JUST A LITTLE SHORT RELIEF. ALSO, TAKE PARACETAMOL FROM TIME TO TIME. I BELIEVE IF ARE ON THEM FOR LONG PERIODS, WE MIGHT SUFFER FROM HEART PROBLEMS. IF THIS IS TRUE, WE MUST BE CAREFUL ABOUT IT. ANYONE ANY VIEWS ON THIS?

I take two four times a day as well. And you’re right  they don’t take the pain away but it does  take the edge off. My doctor told me I should be taken two paracetamol in between the tramadol every day .

I take two of these four times a day.  They don't get rid of the pain but they just take the edge off.
