Alagille syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that often becomes apparent in infancy or early childhood. It most commonly affects the liver by reducing the number or function of bile ducts, leading to cholestasis and bile buildup. It can also affect the heart, kidneys, bones, eyes, blood vessels and facial features, and symptoms vary widely from person to person.
