I have never flown, anywhere, let alone a long one and I really don't know how I would cope with having to sit in one position for more than 4 hours; which is the limit I can drive!
My diagnosis is a recent one, having discovered that both me and my daughter are HLA-B27 positive; after over 30 years of being told that my pain is "just one of those things" or it's just degenerative disc disease or fibro-bloody-myalgia (even a top professor in AS has said that it isn't something he accepts!) seeing many rheumatologists and doctors who dismissed us as couldn't possibly have AS, it's a male dominated disease! 🙄 Or that symptoms didn't match their tick boxes and scans don't show severe inflammation...it's gratifying to finally have someone who shakes their head and tells you that yes, you do indeed have AS!

Hi everyone, how are you doing today?
Travelling with ankylosing spondylitis can bring up a lot of questions and concerns, especially when it comes to long flights. From stiffness and fatigue to medication management and mobility support, flying can feel overwhelming.
After diagnosis, many of us wonder: How will my body handle hours of sitting? Will I be able to carry my bags or walk across the airport? The truth is, travelling with AS often takes more planning, but it’s possible, and even enjoyable, with the right strategies.
So let’s share:
What helps you manage long-haul flights with AS?
Do you stretch in-flight? Use a cane or ask for wheelchair assistance?
What comforts or tools make the biggest difference for your joints and energy?
