Hi, I've read that it can be useful for those who are newly diagnosed with diabetes. Is this true?

I keep a food diary because I have all sorts of food health problems , allergies , intolerances that sort of thing . I have found it invaluable to pinpoint different issues not just diabetic related . I have realised that if I eat potatoes in most forms my blood sugars shoot up .My son cheered when I told him while my husband who is also type 2 diabetic sulked . It's really a individual thing , it can be a nuisance and you can become obsessed with it but can be helpful if you want to have more control over your diabetes.

Hi,i keep a food diary so i can see at a glance what i have eaten and when,it helps me because i am doing Slimming World,and i have lost 2st so far, but there is more to go.

@elizabethmary Oh yes,ihave the same problems with potatoes no matter how they are cooked,my glucose goes sky high which is a shame as i love jackets spuds,even the odd packet of crisps for a treat does the same. Same problem for me with white bread, so i eat wholemeal, my bro who is diabetic is not the same, he can eat both and it not raise his glucose...not fair! lol

A food diary allows you to track your everyday eating habits (what you eat and when you eat) for a certain period of time, in order to establish the link between food and your glucose level.
Have you ever kept such a diary? When you were just diagnosed for example? What was the form - paper/electronic diary? How did it help you?
