Hi @Dollysandameliasauntietj,
Thank you for sharing your story with so much detail, and I really admire how proactive you’ve been about advocating for yourself and researching your condition. That can make a very big difference, especially when you feel like you’re not being fully heard by your care team. I'm tagging a few members to bring this to their attention.
👉 Has anyone here also been diagnosed with low folate (or folic acid) levels, especially alongside type 2 diabetes?
- How did your care team handle it? Were you prescribed the 5 mg dose as well?
- Did it take time for your symptoms to improve, or did you need additional testing or support?
- Have you had experiences where you had to push for further testing based on what you were feeling?

Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with lower than normal folate levels last year.
About a week or two before the end of last month I finished the 3 months supply of 5mg of folic acid tablets (I can't take over-the-counter folic acid tablets as they made me feel sick, so I contacted my doctors and I was put on the 5mg tablets.
I even told the doctor that I'd read on the NHS website that ladies like myself, who are diabetic have to have the 5mg tablets and the doctor tried telling me that it's only for pregnant ladies and I'd told the doctor that it never said that on the NHS website.
I read about the low folate levels on the NHS website.
The was a link on the low folate levels part of the NHS website to another condition, so I clicked on the link and it took me to the other conditions page and it listed similar symptoms.
Low folate levels is also known as low Vitamin B12 and folic acid.
I searched for support groups for low folate levels in the UK and I found one for a Facebook group. I joined the group and another member advised to join another group as well, which I did.
I've got an appointment for a blood test later this month so that they can find out if the folic acid tablets have worked or not.
I was advised by another member to ask my GP surgery for a blood test to check me for another condition (I think the person said that the other condition is connected to the low folate levels one, but I can't remember) just to be on the safe side.
I'm not sure what to do.
