For diabetic 2 patient loosing weight is the best option by far if you have a genuine wish to improve your diabetic health. There are now injecting medicines that aid your weight loss that you can discuss with your GP which have produced some weight reduction.

Well said Rob.

I'm Type II and the coronary consultant told me to restrict my fluid intake to 1.5 litres per day, two weeks ago. It's really hard staying within the limit to start with but you soon get used to it. As a result of this new regime I have lost 1 stone 2 lbs (7.25 KG) of fluid. I can breathe easier and move around without so much effort. My Blood/Sugar readings have levelled out to between 4.7 and 8.5 mmol/L. I feel a lot better for the new regime.

Ask your GP about reducing your fluid intake?

STAY SAFE

Regards  Richard

Hi Monday,

There is also specific weight reducing drugs that are on offer to Diabetics, try asking your GP about such addition treatment. You can also look at various bands or staples on your Stomach, my bother had one and did lead to weight loss!

Well new diabetic drugs that have a weight loss effect as well as various self administered injections causing weight loss. I did loose a bit of weight with a new drug that forces sugar to pass through the body in your pee, but loosing weight effect has stopped now. I don't fancy the new injecting drug once a week, my brother is using it but it is a large needle and painful, not my choice. So lots of new drugs for us diabetics to try which can lead to weight loss as well as the publicised one's Hollywood stars love are available to us, contact your GP!

Well I got the millionaires slimming drug by tablet no less, I told them I would never go for a large needle, but my brave younger brother does. I am on the lowest dose and not a lot happening but I expect to be upped to the highest dose next month, there are a side effect of stomuch issues but I'e had none. Early days and us diabetics can get 6 months supply, with the 'stars' claiming wonderful things, why not!

@robjmckinney Do you remember the name of the treatment you mentioned?

I’ve been living with type 2 diabetes for a while and I also struggle with obesity. I’ve tried different diets and focusing on low-carb foods, but my weight tends to come back over time. Exercise has always been a bit difficult for me as well.

I’d be interested to know what treatment you were referring to so I could maybe ask my GP about it.

@elizabethmary You should be first in line for the slimming drug, normally injection, it is a diabetic drug, side effects of losing weight. The GP approached me to supply the injections but I refused so I was offered Rybelsus tablets, as I said first offered as an injections by the same manjufacturer. I don't like injecting myself or receiving injections so I have lots of different tablets instead of insulin.

Have a word with your GP and see whats on offer, jabs in your stomach or tablets, I assume the tablets are more expensive for the NHS. They reduced the dose from 14mg to 9mg and claim it will be just as effective, it does seem so as I am further losing weight. But I do remember reading an article that doses were to large and certain side effects have materialised. I have had none but I understand females suffer such effects more often than us males.

The government is keen at the moment as diabetes is out of control and may bankrupt the NHS in the future. I have lost one and a half stone so far and as I said as stated losing again with this new tablet. But you have to test often as the tablet can take you to low. I bought a watch that tests blood sugar levels that has been pretty accurate so far, better than needles!

Good luck

@robjmckinney @robjmckinney Thank you for explaining. I hadn’t heard about Rybelsus before. It’s encouraging to hear that it helped you lose some weight. Managing weight has always been difficult for me with type 2 diabetes, even when I try to watch what I eat. I’ll ask my GP about it next time and see if it might be an option for me. Thanks!
