My employer told me to go home on special leave until further notice.I cannot work from home due to the nature of my role. I am fully supported with emails informing me of changes in my role when required so when I return I am almost up to date.

I am a Type 2 Diabetic on Metformin. I am working from home currently. I leave the house to walk for 10 to 15 minutes each day. Should I largely Self Isolate for 3 months please?

Hi all, I am a 62year old male with type 2 diabetes insulin dependant, I am on Eplerenone tablets and Bisoprolol for a heart condition, Metatrixate which supresses my immune system,unluckily for me I also have ulcerative collitis.
I work in a care home and at present have not received a letter should I shield opinions please

@Donny57 I'm type 2 diabetic. I'm self isolating myself for 12 weeks. I'm not risking my health on just social distancing. I live with my mum who's over 70. Ps: the advice for diabetics are only shield yourself for 12 weeks if you have had any other pre existing medical conditions and if your last hba1c is above 75. As for ulcerative colitis it's only if you are taking immunosuppressant medication.

@johnnym14 I'm type 2 diabetic and other underlying issues. I'm self isolating myself for 12 weeks but I'm only doing this because I live with my mum who is over 70 with some medical issues. So I'm not risking my health. I would say going out for 10-15 mins is ok but keeping social distancing rules and not in contact with any vulnerable people when you get home

Thanks Clare not really possible for me not to have contact as my mum has dementia and needed to help there. But short walks and distancing, I am trying to maintain.

@Clare40
Hi Clare thanks for the reply, I am on Mexatrixate which is immunosuppressant, I was lucky enough to get a phone call from my doctor today who has now issued an insurance line for the next 42days, he told me that although I am group2/3 he could not in all honesty tell me that I would be ok to go to work.
So stir crazy time for a while folks.

Hello everyone,
Since the Coronavirus pandemic concerns many across the UK (and Carenity members too), I've created this discussion to allow you to talk specifically about the virus in the context of Type 2 diabetes, as we all know that people with underlying health conditions can be more affected.
If you haven't yet seen, we've published a few articles outlining the general information and guidelines for both the general population and for those with chronic illnesses:
Coronavirus: What do you need to know?
Coronavirus and chronic illness
Are you worried about the coronavirus? Have you received any special instructions from your doctor regarding your care? Are you going to limit your travel? Do you feel that you are sufficiently informed about the general and specific recommendations? Have you taken any specific precautions?
Feel free to share your comments or questions below!
Take care,
Courtney
