There are two groups of vulnerable persons, one that are entitled to government help and support that is decided by your GP. Then you have a vulnerable group of old, several medical diseases etc. who are advised to take extra precautions like long term isolation etc. but are not entitled to government help. But there is many forms of additional help locally through the council, volunteers etc. that offer assistance. If your GP has inform you that you are in their vulnerable group the government recognise you can get food parcels, priority access to online slots for food, access to local council help as well local community support etc. Stay well!

I’ve had to have my gliclazide reduced as it’s causing problems with my liver, my doctor says I need to start on insulin but I’ve got to wait until the covid is under control. I’m worried that my diabetes will cause more damage the longer I have to wait to start insulin. Is there any advice on what I can do?

@Woolley23 I have just found out that I am vulaerable from Asda they did a email saying the Government had told them that I was vulaerable shame they did not tell me as I had been going out shopping. Many thanks to Asda for telling me now I will shop on line and stay in doors

Hello everyone, it's so nice to hear from you all here in our type 2 diabetes community! I hope you're all doing well today despite these challenging circumstances. If you haven't already seen it, we published an article this morning focused on diabetes and the coronavirus! In it we tried to answer some of the many questions people living with diabetes may have about the virus and their condition! I'll link it below:
Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section at the bottom of the article!
Take care,
Courtney

Hi peeps,
I am a type 2 diabetic & until 18 months ago was happily plodding along on metformin and also Trulicity & automatically lost 4 stone from the work of the trulicity. Then due to fibromyalgia and working long hours, my mental and physical health deteriorated rapidly having a massive effect on my diabetes. I started to get readings of between 24 - 32 and became really poorly being off work for 6 months. I didn’t realise how closely linked mental health problems are to diabetes problems
I am now on insulin but since then I have gained all of my weight back and more, I just can’t get it right!! This again is having a knock on effect with my mental health as I’m not overly mobile due to the pain I am in, It is a vicious circle & the self isolating doesn’t help!!
I have seen an article that insulin diabetics and those with diabetic complications are higher risk, but getting the right advice is a nightmare. I am doing everything I can but due to the mental health problems and the stress of all this I am now becoming very phobic about going out at all.
I would appreciate any words of wisdom, Chellie

Hello everyone,
Since the Coronavirus pandemic concerns many across the UK (and Carenity members too), I've created this discussion to allow you to talk specifically about the virus in the context of Type 2 diabetes, as we all know that people with underlying health conditions can be more affected.
If you haven't yet seen, we've published a few articles outlining the general information and guidelines for both the general population and for those with chronic illnesses:
Coronavirus: What do you need to know?
Coronavirus and chronic illness
Are you worried about the coronavirus? Have you received any special instructions from your doctor regarding your care? Are you going to limit your travel? Do you feel that you are sufficiently informed about the general and specific recommendations? Have you taken any specific precautions?
Feel free to share your comments or questions below!
Take care,
Courtney
