Hello everyone,

How are you today?

The pharmaceutical groups Pfizer (USA) and BioNTech (Germany) announced on Monday 9 November that their vaccine candidate is 90% "effective" in preventing Covid-19 infections, according to preliminary results of their large-scale phase 3 trial, which is still ongoing.

What do you think about this? Do you plan to be vaccinated as soon as the COVID-19 vaccine is on the market?

Feel free to discuss and share in the comments below!

Take care,

Courtney

@Courtney_J I'm not sure yet about it. I know they say it's effective and that it has gone through rigorous testing, but usually vaccines and medicines take years to develop. I think I'd be nervous about getting the jab since we don't know what effect it will have later or how long it lasts. But I don't think I'm top priority to get it anyway.

@TiffyT I agree with you. I'd think if it were offered to me I'd still get it because it's better than the alternative, but it I think I'd want to read some of the study results. I have a friend in America who participated in a vaccine trial and I wonder if it was Pfizer's. She's been fine since but she could have gotten the placebo I suppose.

I am 100% rolling up my sleeve and going for it. It's a shorter time frame than usual yes, but hey - scientists from all over the world working together to a single goal and sharing their findings, no funding issues and a lot of paperwork taken out of the mix probably cut a few years off the norm! I am good to go!

I am 76 years of age and hopefully will be near the front of the queue.   I have no fears as to the consequences and totally put my faith in the medical profession, who lets face it have done a remarkable job in developing this vaccine.   It's now down to us all to get the vaccine and halt the virus in it's tracks.   If large numbers "bottle it" then it will continue to blight our lives.

Listening to all the Anti virus Propaganda videos. I was very much against the vaccine. But since the Govt. have confirmed that it was all rubbish and scaremongery, I am more relaxed, especially after Professor Van Tam declared that he would urge his soon to be 79 years mother to have the vaccine as soon as her turn comes up, I no longer doubt. Government have worked so hard in getting the vaccination ready, and I am happy to put my faith in them. i am 76 and my hubby soon to be 84, we won't be that far behind in the queue. So yes, I am ready to roll up my sleeve to get the jab. After all from 20.000 people who had the vaccine on trial, not one of them were hospitalized. So there is something to think about in favor of vaccine.

I have no worries about getting the vaccine, but at the age of 63 have a long wait... I had a seizure recently and was taken into A&E where an automatic COVID test and swab was taken; thank goodness that then was negative! I will wait for my turn as and when I am advised but take the offer from NHS and/or my GP, as I am grateful to them for a great health service in all ways!

Hello everyone,

Thank you for joining the discussion! emoticon cute

Since the vaccination programme started this week, have any of you been contacted to receive it?

We've all heard a lot about the first COVID jab recipient, but here's a lovely story about the second recipient... and his storied name! Shakespeare gets Covid vaccine: All's well that ends well, BBC

Take care,
Courtney

@Courtney_J yes I intend getting the vaccine if it means me getting my freedom to go out and about again because without it there is a fear of going out . The only reason I go out at the moment is for a monthly blood test because I am on a lot of different tablets but other than that I tend to stay in

I am certainly not a anti vaccination person, and believe everyone should chose for themselves, but I have not had any vaccinations as an adult. In fact I turned some down in school. It is strange how there was an uproar when the government was thought to had tried the herd Immunity approach to tackling the pandamic, yet many seem happy to embrace mass vaccination which is herd Immunity. I wish all of you who have the vaccination all the best but my doses are available for someone who actually wants it.
