Hi!

I am depressed at the moment and finding it difficult to do anything. Today i have joined this site and I'm going for a walk, I hope I will then feel I have done something constructive, though maybe not productive.  I feel empty maybe the walk will in the fresh air will wake me up.

I hope that you enjoyed your walk Minkie.? Going for a walk is an excellent thing to do ; great for the mind, body and soul and so I would say it is also productive along with constructive. Always try and do something for yourself that you enjoy/enjoyed doing when you felt well; no matter how small. These little steps will evolve in to bigger ones as you return on to the path of good health. Attempt to keep yourself occupied physically, mentally try taking some time out to lie/ sit down and empty your mind. Listen to calming music. Take your body to somewhere that you love in your mind. Imagine that warm, content feeling. Concentrate on your breathing. Above all I recommend talking ; you can never talk enough. Be honest with how you feel/your thoughts.

I wish you well. x

Mindfulness is a great way to look at things in a different way, reading self help books can also help...if you can....sometimes I'm not in the mood. Meditate....there are so many apps you can download - headspace, Calm or YOU. Give them a try...try to stay positive, I know it's hard - start doing things that make you happy. Also breathing exercises help...try youtube

exercise ie walking gym swimming etc etc are good for some people with depression but not all, I am bad with anxiety at the moment so don't like going out as I get anxiety attacks if I am in a group of more than 2 people and I get irritable if people talk for too long. I love music and that can make you feel better. ive tried tv movies but cant concentrate long enough to watch them. ive hit rock bottom at the moment and attempted suicide last week. obviously didn't work and I guess I was glad at first but a day later I was making a DVD  of myself to be played at my funeral and planning what to do to take my own life next.

bradford73. You don't have to go out to exercise. I bought a cross trainer as I don't like gyms etc. I also couldn't concentrate, in fact I have only recently been able to actually read a book; almost 3 years on. Reading your post it sounds like relaxation "could" help your mind set at the moment.

Go + sit /lie down + concentrate on your breathing.  Empty your mind of all negative thoughts, concentrate on your breathing. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Try + picture good times in your life. How they made you feel.

Do you know what is wrong in your life to make you feel so low?

I have never walked in your shoes + so can only go on my own experiences. Life is hard but is it really that bad for you?  Is there no one that you are close too , whom you could chat too and open up?

There is no point in saying think of those that love you as I know that you are that low that you don't have rational/logical  thoughts.

Are you accepting treatment at the moment following your suicide attempt?

Do you wish to accept help?

By putting your post I sense that deep down you want help. Please go and get it now. Nothing in life is worth taking your own life. Yes it may appear to you that you are in such a dark place and you will never feel happy/content; that is what depression does to you. Believe me it will get better but you have to acknowledge that you can't do it alone. Go to A+E they will have a crisis mental health team available.

When you are well , you will never believe how bad/low you felt. It will be a distant memory.

Please feel free to private message me for support or even if you just want to sound off.

Take care. There are people who really care + want to help and who have experienced what you are going through.

x

Bradford73, I completely agree with "itgetsbetter"

You will get better, you need to believe in yourself....the negative thoughts can take over but you need to be strong!! You will find the light at the end of the tunnel. Attempting suide isn't the answer, it feels at the time that it is but it really really isn't....I've wanted to several times. You are capable of being so much more but you need to stay strong.

Are you getting help? Do you have anyone close to talk to? Friends? Family?

I'm here for a chat if you need to talk.

Take care...remember there are people who care.

I am concerned that you are getting adequate follow up. I would like to think that anyone who came to A and E after a suicide attempt would be seen by a duty psychiatrist and referred on to appropriate services. But these days who knows. Your area will have a Crisis Team, though its name may be something different. Their function is to see anyone at risk of hospital admission and to offer help to prevent this, or to arrange admission to hospital if it is unavoidable.

If you have made one suicide attempt and are thinking of another you would certainly be within their remit. Some Crisis Teams can be contacted directly by the person concerned. Others require a medical referral. The simplest way is to go to your GP, ask for a referral, and you should be seen before the end of the day.

You may have been referred to appropriate services already, you don't mention this. If you haven't I would strongly recommend your Crisis Team to you.

I have been under the care of the crisis team before and then after 5 sessions of seeing them was left to do my own thing, I ring first response and get no joy from them, that's if you can get through to them. I have also been to a place called the sanctuary that is run by M.I.N.D, it was ok to go and rant but the rest isn't for me as I felt stupid them wanting me to do yoga or breathing exercises. I have finally got some sleeping tablets from my doctor to try but only a few, having around 3 hrs sleep a day certainly doesn't help with my depression or anxiety.  I appreciate all your advice guys and will try it. I wish you all the best in your battle with your illness x
