Hi, I have OA in my hands and I've noticed in the past few months that I'm losing fine motor coordination in my hands. I have a terrible time gripping things and I often have to rest my hands in the middle of doing something...

Has anyone else been through this with OA? I'm not sure if I should try to see my doctor or if there's anything I can even do. It's gotten very difficult to use my computer mouse and typing for long periods, I'm afraid it's going to start interfering with my work.

Hi, I have OA in my hands and wrists, I too have problems with coordination both directly to OA locking up fingers, not being able to grip or pick up things due to pain in the wrists.   But Ive also got coordination problems after having a right hand trapezeumectomy three years ago, while I am glad to have had the operation as it totally removed some terrible pain in my wrist and hand it has left me with very little thumb to forefinger grip.  This has resulted in me having to come up with novel ways to use a bread knife and spreading butter on bread.  So from my experience yes, OA does cause hand coordination problems and while surgery can, fortunately, remove the debilitating pain of OA that too can lead to other coordination problems.   In case any one reads this wrong I am absolutely thrilled with the results of surgery and will jump at the opportunity to have the same operation on my left wrist which isn't far away

@pete55 Thank you so much for the reply. I've heard that surgery can do that, but I'm glad to know it helps with the pain. I don't know if my OA is advanced enough yet to warrant surgery but I am interested to ask. I can completely relate to the creative ways of using things! 😂 I was talking to my daughter about this the other day and she mentioned that they make computer mice now for arthritis, so I may look into that. I hope they make arthritis products for everything in life because I will soon be at that point!

I recently staryed to notice rhat when I peel potatoes, mangoes or any large vegetables, my fingers get locked and get cramps. Some times I get severe pain in certain fingers, but it does not last long. I do exercise my wrists and fingers

My arthritis is mainly in my feet ,shoulder.it starts to be more troublesome as winter progresses.

I also have trouble with two vertebrae in my neck which is not too nice, my main gripe is ,I'm expected

to take painkillers to allieviate the pain ,which is ok but I get that sickly feeling on taking large doses.

john dakin, I have had an operation to fix all the vertebrae in my neck as it was pressing on the spinal cord. Amazing result as now have no pain there at all and can hold my head up. I don't know how bad yours is and I know at the moment having it done is difficult because of the Covid19 virus but would advise if it is really bad to ask for a referral
