Hi, I have OA in my hands and I've noticed in the past few months that I'm losing fine motor coordination in my hands. I have a terrible time gripping things and I often have to rest my hands in the middle of doing something...

Has anyone else been through this with OA? I'm not sure if I should try to see my doctor or if there's anything I can even do. It's gotten very difficult to use my computer mouse and typing for long periods, I'm afraid it's going to start interfering with my work.

@Katieoxo22 Hi, I have had operations on both of my hands to relieve thumb pain, lack of grip, carpal tunnel and one hand a release for my 'trigger finger' ( when your finger locks).

Thumb op on one hand 100% wonderful for over 5 years as it was being the supplemental one. Does not like being the principle one at all. Thumb op on other hand which involved removing a bone ok but it would have been more satisfactory if I had let it rest more whilst recovering however other thumb was not happy at doing all the work!

I have just 12 weeks ago had a release on my hand for what is called trigger finger. Very simple and very effective does sometimes lock at night still so I wear a finger splint to stop it in bed.

The trigger finger was pain wise out of all proportion for its size. Just a ligament catching on bone doesn't sound much!  It was so easy to release and relatively pain free'ish when compared to how it felt when folded up previously.

Find a good plastic surgeon once this pandemic is over and get some help.

Think you are right it might be better to look at possible treatment once this pandemic has calmed done , presuming all the vaccines work and theres enough to go round all of us, with staff to administer it. Main need right now is to stay safe and well. Take care and thanks for reply.

I also have hand/thumb arthritis and awaiting surgery which could be 2 years, my shoulder and other joints are also affected. I have poor fine motor skills now and constant pain, I take Naproxen at night which helps a little and glucosamine, I might try turmeric as someone else suggested. I still work as a teaching assistant.

@MARYMC‍

Turmeric most certainly will help. You need to be patient though. Don't expect miracles right away. It can take up to 3 months some times to start noticing the benefit. Have you read up on it first to see if it is for you? if you haven't, look up Turmeric for Health. Everything you want to know, is on it. If you are on Blood thinners, you need to be cautious. Dietary Turmeric is alright but not supplements, as Turmeric in itself is blood thinner. Good luck.

I can't hold anything for more than a few minutes without dropping it. I found the good grips rang of kitchenware helped for a while. I wear compression gloves and wrist splints. Hubby got me an adapter that turns a mug into a two handled mug which has helped a lot and I'm now using lighter plates which help. I've got a no-spill dish as well that stops me pouring milk down my front. Hubby peels all the veg these days.
