Hi, I have OA in my hands and I've noticed in the past few months that I'm losing fine motor coordination in my hands. I have a terrible time gripping things and I often have to rest my hands in the middle of doing something...

Has anyone else been through this with OA? I'm not sure if I should try to see my doctor or if there's anything I can even do. It's gotten very difficult to use my computer mouse and typing for long periods, I'm afraid it's going to start interfering with my work.

@bobjen I have arthritis in both hands and wrists. It does cause problems. I cope by having steroid injections in the worst fingers, they do help. I also have had the carpal tunnel operation on both wrists. That helped me tremendously and thank God so far has not recurred.

@nineteen_gale  Hello I find after many years of arthritis in my hands that I too now get a cramp or locking of my fingersas well as the thumb pain and swelling. I put it down to progression of the illness.

@Katieoxo22‍

Hello. I am afraid it is the progression of the disease. How ever, there are ways to slow down the progression. I find wearing Arthritis gloves for a few hours or as long as you can tolerate, helps with the pain. I am not sure if you are aware to Turmeric. I make my own golden paste and take it with hot Oats or Almond milk, and that certainly has helped me over the years with my Arthritis. I have totally worn cartilage of my Rt. knee, needing a Total Knee Replacement. I was told that in 2015. Thats is when I started Turmeric and I have found a tremendous benefit. I still have my own knee. I do the knee strengthening exercises and take Glucosamine sulphate with MSM supplements. There is website called Turmeric For Health. Google it and read all about it. You have to consult your GP before you start on Turmeric as it is not for everybody. If you are on Blood thinners, you can not take the supplements, but Turmeric in diet is safe. It also interferes with certain medications and you have to take them 2 hours apart. So it would be worth your while to read up about it first before you consult your GP. Good luck

@nineteen_gale  Thank you for suggestions, I have tried the Tumeric recommendations in the past . At present I am recovering from total knee replacement, right one like you. Not sure its a major success but I can walk on it after ten weeks but not straighten it fully, but with exercise it is improving. Good luck with your treatment replacement joints are not for all.

Thank you for the heads up. I am trying to hold onto my own knee as long as I possibly can. i suppose there will come a time when I may have to have it done. There are success stories as well you know. I will wait and see.Hope your knee bend improves with exercises.

@Katieoxo22  Keep going, I had a total knee replacement after 11 other operations on my knee to relieve the problem. I was told, because of all the old operations I  probably wouldn't bend it again and here I am sitting cross legged with no problem and no pain!  I had to work very hard at it for a long time but I am stubborn and persistent. I have another knee to go but putting it off as long as I can, had the knee cap removed 40 years ago and managed without one since but cannot run without looking like a crab!

Now if only I could say the same about my hands.

Thank you for giving me hope , there are some ops for hands but I think they only tidy up the joint. There are robotic hands usually given to people who have lost their joints in accidents. I expect you will have tried all the usual treatments, like gloves,wax, painkillers, splints , creams and potions , exercises with weights or tins of beans, injections in the joints. They say some herbal treatments work and avoiding some foods too.Best wishes for the New Year, Oh I have got another symptom now in my hands fingers locking.
