Hello everyone,

When people talk about cancer, it is generally focused around the physical impact that cancer can have on you. This can be especially difficult with prostate cancer, because it has difficult consequences concerning libido, penis size/function as well as impacting your skin, appetite...

However, today I want to ask you about how having cancer has changed you mentally. The PTSD that can follow the diagnosis and treatment of cancer isn't mentioned as much. So, how has your cancer mentally impacted you? Do you have nightmares about it coming back or getting worse? Do you feel depressed or motivated by your diagnosis?

Please let us know and share your stories.

Just had my latest psa test and hospital appointment 18th April 2019, still fantastic news. psa less than 0.01, this has been steady since October. Consultant has put me on 2 x 6 monthly psa tests and after that, if all is well yearly monitoring.

Got my dates wrong, psa level, less than 0.01, has been the same since January 2018 not October. That's even better.

My latest meeting with consultant was scheduled for 20th October 2019 but has been cancelled until 13th February 2020. My latest psa blood test was taken on 7th October but because of rescheduled meeting have not had the results. Just waiting to hear now from my consultant. I guess all must be OK, otherwise I would think I'd have had an earlier date than February 2020.

Got a call from the oncology nurse, my psa reading for 7th October is still at less than 0.01. So I guess that's why my appointment was put back to 13th February 2020. Hopefully my next psa will be the same and I go on to 12 monthly surveillance.

I have suffered a bit with radiation cystitis, a burning feeling when I first pass urine. I also had a few tiny 1 mm blood clots pass but this is all side effects of my treatment. I have spoken to my specialist nurse and is available if I'm concerned. Still, I have an appointment with my consultant in a couple of months' time, so I will bring it up then. Other than these little things I am very happy and upbeat. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

oops had a little setback early Wednesday morning at 2.00 am, just couldn't pass urine. Decided with my wife to go to A&E. I was in great pain waiting to see Triarg Nurse. Was called in, details taken and returned to the waiting room after being told I would be catheterised. Then I tried to go to the toilet again several times, on about the fifth time had to sit down and passed what must have been a blood clot. What relief, passed urine three more times. Eventually called through for bladder wash out after 14 hours in A&E was taken to a holding ward for treatment overnight. Returned home in the afternoon of Thursday with a catheter and now waiting for an appointment for a fibre optic camera into the bladder to check for lesions. As a matter of course had  my p.s.a checked, undetectable, kidney function OK and a D.R.E on my prostate.
