@Suzie51 Hello Suzie51, thank you for starting this discussion. As ulcerative colitis is a digestive system disorder, it is only natural for patients to be careful about their eating habits. Even if there is no scientific proof that a special diet can treat or slow the progression of UC, it is highly recommended to have a well-balanced, healthy diet.
We also have a helpful list of foods that may irritate UC here: 14 Foods for Ulcerative Colitis Patients to Avoid

I can eat almost everything when my colitis is under control. As soon as I start to get symptoms I revert to a bland diet which doesn't cure the flare up just helps the pain and bloating a little.

I was diagnosed 18 months ago and have been largely ok other than a bit of constipation or blood, so have largely ignored the secondary issues.
Over the last 6 months though I’ve have gotten steadily worse with constant mild flare ups which are now at the point where I write this from hospital and medication doesn’t seem to be helping me. I’m convinced by the research on food I have done that diet must be key in helping control it. However the advice online seems so contradictory, high fibre, low fibre, low residue, do eat fruit, don’t eat fruit, eat white bread, don’t eat bread. A bit like our current Governments lockdown policy if I’m honest.
can anyone help me with what has actually helped them?
