What treatments have you tried for ulcerative colitis? https://www.carenity.co.uk/forum/ulcerative-colitis/your-opinion-on-ulcerative-colitis-treatments/your-treatment-1016Posted on 16/05/2016 18:39
Hi GildaT I have had Colitis for many years first it was thought to be Chrons then Chrons/Colitis now Distel Colitis. I have a Consultant who is wonderful! First of all I was giving tablets to suppress my Immune System for a few years then went on Asacol which I still take for 10+ years. On 3x3 a day of 400mg so 3,600mg a day which I am on for life. Have a few bad days but that is because I eat wrong foods sometimes!

Morning all sorry not been on site for a while been really ill lately after a few months & 3 doctors finally got proper check up. Had newer Antibiotics instead of the same old ones a weeks supply of Steroids on Weds, Chest Xray Friday doctor concerned I have TB blood tests tomorrow. I do not know if I have TB but whatever is wrong i cannot walk at all struggling for breath at least this doctor is doing what should have been done months ago. When I receive diagnosis will inform all. Upside B/P is perfect due to another doctor doubling my B/P meds, lost 13lbs (not sure if it is because i am to ill to eat but never eat much anyway) XC

Hi everyone,
How are you doing? Have you seen this older discussion?
What treatments have you tried for UC? What has worked for you? Have you tried any alternative therapies or treatments?

@Courtney_J Hi, I was diagnosed in my early 20s and went through almost a decade of medicines and nothing really worked. I ended up getting a total colectomy in 2017 and I've been doing much better since.

Hello Hazel56, thank you for your comment. I've moved it to our discussion here in our Treatments for ulcerative colitis group for more visibility.
Have any of you used painkillers to help with your UC stomach cramps? Which ones have worked for you? Are there any treatments that have helped with diarrhoea ?

@Hazel56 Your doctor should be able to give you proper advice, because you have to be careful with certain antidiarrhoeals or antispasmodics. Buscopan and imodium worked for me before my doctor had me switch medications, because after a while my UC progressed and they weren't enough. Make sure to ask your IBD team.
