Hi my name is Chris and I am a newbie to this site. I have a long history of osteo arthritis, started initially in my hand 18 years ago and now have it in most joints, it is particurlarly painful in my hands , my lower back ,shoulders and knees. I also have type 2 diabetes , and I am on 3 different insulins and metformin, consequently this has an impact on some of the meds I can take. I have looked through a lot of your comments from last year to the present, and it is so sad that we all have to suffer with this terrible condition, which causes such debilitating pain. I went to see my GP on Friday , he does try to help, but I am getting to the stage where I may have to go on Morphine. have tried lots of different meds, co-codamol , ibuprofen, diclofenac which helped but affected my kidney function so had to stop them , tramadol, pantenadol, they made me go loopy, transderm patches, fetanyl patches, was allergic to the adhesive on both. Magnets, tens machine, actipatch, didn't work for me, now have very restricted mobility, and have had to use a wheelchair occasionally because cannot walk with the pain.
I try my best to keep going . I do crafts . knitting, crochet and card making to keep my dexterity, but some days it is so hard, it take all your strenth to get out of bed, I am hoping that I can make friends with people who understand what it is like to be in pain continuously , I have a good family, but I don't want to moan to them all the time, sorry this is so long winded, but today is a bad day , sending hugs to everyone xxx

I have arthritis in hip and knee, I take Naproxen but they don't do much good, been using Acti-Patch for a few months, it cleared up the awful spasms I was having at the top of my leg, I now put it on my hip and it does help the ache but does'nt do much to the referred pain in the groin and leg

I use magnetic therapies/products to control and limit pain and give ease of movement in my neck and fingers. I refused to take the cocktail of painkillers (ibuprofen and paracetamol) prescribed by my GP. I have been amazed and delighted by the results of using the magnets. Other people I know have also had great results. There have been a few small studies done and it is said that the magnets counteract any acidity in the body which in turn accelerates healing. In a Harvard Medical School study of 29 patients with painful osteoarthritis of the knee, treatments were given in a clinic setting for 4 hours - the pain scores decreased in the treatment group versus only 10 points in the placebo group. As I don't want to advertise on this site, but do want to share my discovery, please contact me privately to get more information. (joannawestwater@yahoo.co.uk)

@Dappy571 Your best idea is to go to your pharmacist and check with them about interference with medicines
They are pretty clued up on things like that and easier to see than a GP or at least easier to see than my GP
Sorry I cant help......I take epilepsy tablets {which is well controlled now....been about 35 years since I had a seizure but I still need the tablets} the amount of tablets that I cant take because they are contraindicated with the anti convulsants are not ordinary.
I have to check every new tablet I get. Better to be safe than sorry

Hi all I take 1200mg of gabapentin for nerve pain, 1000mg naproxen and one omeprazole daily And anything up to 6 cocodamol, depending on what sort of day I'm having. If I pace correctly (this bit I do struggle with) this cocktail seems to work.

Hi
I'm still struggling with getting on top of my pain. I'm taking MST {morphine} 10mg twice a day and 5ml of oromorph once a day.
Also paracetamol and naproxen.....any other meds are not for pain {BP, omneprozol, epilepsy etc}
Anyway the doc decided I should come off the naproxen because I've been on it a long time and I'm not a youngster lol I did agree because I know anti inflammatory meds are not particular good for you. I was on the full dose, 500mg x 2 a day.
Since taking the MST the pain had eased. I came off the 500mg of naproxen in the morning and left the evening one for a while, The pain didn't seem too bad then a couple of weeks later I got my prescription for Naproxen and instead of 500mg it was 250mg!!!!!!! I tried taking that for a while but the pain got worse so I rang him and I'm back on 500mg a day but the pain hasn't eased?????
I don't know where to go from here? It did seem to be working at first

I have used comfrey ointment on my foot when I had an arthritic flare last year, I found it helped.
Arthritis in the foot I find putting feet up helpful and also I used a heat pad on muscles in the leg which seem to suffer because the foot was painful to weight bare. Hot epsom salt bath also very helpful.
For me paracetamol didn't help much, nor did ibugel.

Hi I have oa in my knees, hips and issues with my back due to scoliosis.
I am on pregablin, paracetamol, tramadol and am unable to take anti inflammatories due to being on Warfarin.
I have had limited success with the capsicum cream and with acupuncture.
Seeing a rheumatologist soon so hoping to get more relief from them
