I have had Osteoarthritis for a long time it has become more painful in the last five years I am on Amytriplyne (I dont not know why doctor evasive as it is for blood pressure) lately it is getting worse gone from my back right leg and hip to left leg (due to my use of a cane) and now my right shoulder, my doctor is young and I do not think she realises the extent of the problem so I take a cheap Ibroprufen every day. I have read about the use of spices to help but there is one big problem I am also spice intolerant they give me severe indigestion and leave a burning in my throat and tongue Can anyone suggest where I go from here as it is now affecting my sleep on a big scale as I cannot get into a position that does not hurt.

I tend to have cramp and aching in my legs and one ankle aches especially when I sit or it will wake me up in the night. I do a lot of walking as I find this helps as I do not want to rely on taking painkillers all the time.

Are you intolerant to Turmeric as well? Ibuprofen on long term is not good to take. Have you tried any natural therapies, such as Devil's Claw or Green Lipid Muscle, Ginger Glocosamin and Condroitin, Rosehip etc? Read up on Turmeric for Health website. Turmeric in diet and cooking is alright if you are intolerant to supplements. Just a thought.
Good luck.

If it is a spice I cannot take it that simple tried a lot of different supplements to no effect I only take about 4 Ibuprofen a day Have told doctor but she is blaze about it unfortunately I am unable to change as the next nearest is either up a steep hill or two buses and an hours journey away but only a mile as the crow flies!

I have Osteoarthritis of knees and hip. I use Tramadol and it is a great painkiller, I use it alongside Gabapentin and Etodolac. I am interested in gels and rubs though, so would be grateful for any recommendations.

@Moonstone1 I am interested in what happens if you have a knee replacement with epidural. How long does it take? How awake are you? Do you not feel anything at all? I am aware everyone is different but any info would be helpful.

Glucosamine sulphate with Emu oil is a good get. Tiloket (ketoprofen) is another. Capcisain also good. you can also get patches of them. Red Tiger balm is very good, but you need to cover the area with a gauze and bandage as it stains the bed sheet rather badly. I also understand Cotton wool pads soaked in warm Caster oil, and bandaged up over night is excellent for Arthritic pain. Hope this is helpful.

Ibuprofen x 4 a day is okay for 5 days. Any longer than that causes Gastric ulcers. You need to take stomach coolant such as Ranitidine or Omeprazol to prevent the destruction of the lining of the stomach. All anti inflammatories have side effects and are not good for long term. Talk to your GP about it.

I have talked to GP she does not seem to mind as I mentioned she replaced my other doctor at the beginning of the year and she is very young, and I believe not too aware of my type of problem unfortunately I cannot move to another because of location and there is only two doctors left in my Health Centre!

Hi All.
I have been using a liquid called Real 3 which I read about on the Internet. So far, no results. It's expensive and there is a Customs Charge for buying in the UK. In my opinion, not even worth thinking about. The only thing that helps with my osteoarthritis in both knees is the humble Ibuprofen which is said to be bad for the heart. Now I'm contemplating a double knee replacement to get rid of the constant pain. Anyone else got any ideas for pain relief?
