Hello everyone,

This group contains many different types of cancer. I hope we will experience some sharing across cancer types here in this forum.

I am interested in hearing about your personal story. What kind of cancer do/ did you have and how were you diagnosed?

All the best,

Marina

Hi Cathy667, sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis, hope your treatment is going well. I'm not one to give advice as everyone's circumstances are different, however, I was diagnosed on 9/6/11 with a grade 3 oestrogen + & Her2+ tumour with lymph node involvement. Since then I've done chemo pre-surgery to shrink it, mastectomy and node clearance, 3 weeks radiotherapy reconstruction and am now maintained on anastrozole and herceptin. The treatment can be rubbish and the side effects can be severe, however you get through it the best way that you can. I've told myself I'm fine. often through gritted teeth, however eventually it becomes true! Good luck to all xx

i have prostate cancer gleeson 6 so very early stages etc. had it for a year now on waitfull watching, i am choosing to just keep an eye on things at the moment because i have other medical issues as well to think about i am registered blind, have osteoarthritis in most joints , i also have Pan hypopiturism (no functioning pituitary gland)...i also had a brain hemorrhage a few years back been through the wars really, i have been told that my type of cancer could stay as it it for 10 years + dont know how truthful that is ......the most difficult thing for me doesn't matter what anyone else says  its living day to day with cancer in your body, even though they say it wont change for a bit you still think on a daily basis that it will....if you have a day when your not feeling well ..is it cancer, you have twinges is it cancer so on and so fourth

Ain't that the truth herbert37! I'm now in the position that after 5 years of ongoing treatment I'm in the enviable state of being cancer free, however every time I have a blood test to ensure that liver and kidneys are continuing to function, I fret that something sinister will show up, the same with heart scans and mammograms. The unfortunate thing is, that feeling never really goes away, I try to put it to the back of my mind and most of the time I succeed, but I get days where it is at the forefront of my thoughts. I think that we all have our individual coping strategies, so I won't bore you with mine. I wish you good luck and continuing good health.

Hi candle76, hope your recent surgery went well and that you are recovering. I'm glad you are finding your counselling and relaxation classes helpful, I must admit I found the whole support group thing utterly repellent! I am an awkward so and so and extremely independent, however I think that your relaxation classes will really help. I do a bit of yoga and I'm also into reiki and am learning to meditate, it all helps to quiet the mind. Good luck, good health and good wishes x

My Dad 92 recovered from his Colon cancer operation earlier this year despite the medical staff advising us to write him off. So don't always follow the cancer specialists advice and go with your gut on knowing your loved one better. He is now fit and healthy, now living with us permanently, driving us mad to go out everyday. He hopefully has a long period now to enjoy his later life to the full. Having survived throat cancer myself but losing a mother and brother to cancer mostly due to medical incompetence, fight to the end it just may pay off!

My partner was diagnosed with liver cancer yesterday and I am in total shock. We are waiting to hear what treatment they will carry out. He is having more tests today. They think it is contained and what they said is it hasn't spread. I can't take this in at all and I'm trying to keep positive but it's difficult. Any comments are very welcome. This is such a great community and I am so pleased I found it x
