Hello everyone,

This group contains many different types of cancer. I hope we will experience some sharing across cancer types here in this forum.

I am interested in hearing about your personal story. What kind of cancer do/ did you have and how were you diagnosed?

All the best,

Marina

@dionotts Hello dionotts, thank you for sharing your story. If you haven't already, feel free to take a look at our Living with Prostate Cancer forum, you should hopefully find some support from others who are experiencing the same diagnosis. Please keep us updated on how you are doing from time to time if you are up to it.

Take care,

Michael

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer on 17th December 2002 and have undergone both surgery and radiotherapy. Regrettably, the disease has returned and I'm being treated with hormones. The support from Britain's National Health Service together with two charities has been amazing but nothing has compensated for the loss of my sexual ability. I've struggled with still having the desires but not the physical ability to respond. I am given Cialis and urethral sticks but they are far from the answer. Still, I'm alive. The surgeon who undertook my radical prostatectomy is still my specialist but is due to the retire in the summer so I do have some concerns for the future and I will certainly miss this amazing man.

Hi Hawthornian, like you,- diagnosed PC .August 2019. Although living in Milton Keynes, I am booked into "Churchill" Oxford for my Radio Therapy treatment. Sadly, due to unforeseen viruses, have had treatment postponed, so it is back on the hormone treatment. "Watchful Waiting" Appropriate with Easter coming up. My Faith is strong. My Oncologist, a fellow ex-South African, has been fantastic, along with every member of the NHS I have come into contact with. My song when hand washing. @Courtney_J I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016. Went through radiotherapy and dealt with terrible fatigue and other side effects, but it was all worth it as I am still in remission today. Really thankful to my oncologist and the other medical staff that treated me. There is hope for everyone, you can get through the terrible disease that is cancer!

@viking47 My apologies for not acknowledging your message. Life is still full in spite of all unfolding pandemic. I'm pleased you found the NHS as I did. It suggests to me the milk of human kindness is still flowing. Bets of luck with whatever happens next in your life. John

Hi, I was diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer early this year and was diagnosed several round of chemo. I just recently finished my first round. It was terrible but I try to remember that it's all just part of the fight to take down this disease! 💪

@viking47 Have you been able to continue your treatment??

I have just been diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma in the void round my womb. The only treatment is to have an operation to cut it out. Sounds simple but they wanted to do a hysterectomy via key hole surgery but the tumour is too large. As a chronic asthmatic there is a lot of debate about whether I can have general anaesthetic and there is talk of doing it via a spinal block. That freaks me out more than the original diagnosis. I am very lucky in that I have a brilliant support network but I can't explain why I am so scared, I don't know myself I just know I am terrified. Got to go to the hospital on Thursday for lung function tests to determine the way forward. Now I know the more stressed I am the worse my asthma is so I am trying to keep calm, and failing. Wish me luck with my journey ahead.
