Osteoarthritis is the most form of arthritis and it most commonly occurs in the spine, hands, hips, knees and spine.

Where does your osteoarthritis affect you? Is it just one location or several?

@Smudger‍

Hi, I too have arthritis in various parts of the body including the shoulder. What is your operation for? What exactly or to be more precise where in your shoulder that needs operating on. I had 1 Steroid injection in my shoulder and I have greater range of movements in it than before and the pain is less too. Have you tried the injection? Have you been given the option, or is it surgery the only option?

Good luck

Not shoulder replacement, open up the joint and  and clean both surfaces[Ball and Socket]and fit a cap over the ball, put back together.

Shoulders, elbows and hands following thirty years of walking with crutches, also left knee. My right knee joint was fused 55 years ago to enable me to walk without a leg brace as I had polio as am infant and have never walked unaided. The pain in my joints is so great these days that I struggle to walk, even round the house; cannot wheel myself in a manual wheelchair  so use a mobility scooter most of the time outside the house. I take Celebrex and Co-codamol to reduce the pain to a level where I can at least function.

@lar123‍

I understand only too well. I have only been walking with crutches for the past 5 years, but i can understand what you must be feeling with 30 years of walking on them. Yes, it affects my shoulders hands and back. I am stuck with them for life now. I can walk in the house without them but do need them outside, as I am bent from my hips after 5 Spinal surgeries, and need the crutches to hold me upright. How long have you been on Celebrex. Do you have a history of heart problems your self or in the family. I was on Celebrex for a good few years until the media caught hold of it that this drug causes heart attacks in many patients, particularly those who have a family history or themselves got heart problems. My GP advised me to get of it, and I promptly did. I now manage my pain with natural remedies such as Turmeric, Ginger, Fish oils, Rose Hip, Glucosamine sulphate and Copndroitin and am managing well. i take Paracetamol as and when I need them, but not regularly as they cause Liver damage over a period of times. Anti inflammatory drugs such as Celebrex do cause stomach ulcers. Are you taking any protection for your stomach, such as Lanzoprasol or Omeprezol or Gaviscon? Should you decide to take Turmeric, please read up all about it first on their website Turmeric For Health. If you are on any blood thinners, take advise from you GP. Turmeric in diet is safe but avoid supplements. Turmeric can also counteract with some of the prescription medications, so a chat to your GP is advisable.. Do you have a 4 wheel rolator/walker to walk in the house to save you using the crutches?

I hope this helps and I wish you Good luck.

@nineteen_gale Thanks for your response. I have taken Celebrex for probably 20 years with no side effects. A year or so ago, a GP tried to take me off them but the increased pain  levels were so unbearable that he agreed I needed to continue with them. If I don't take these , plus co-codamel, which i have probably taken for 40+ years, every day, I would not be able to get out of bed, never mind function and have any quality of life. I do not need any medication for my stomach as, fortunately, I don't have any problems with that. Fortunately, I have no family history of heart problems and, other than the life long effects of having had Polio as an infant before the vaccine was discovered, I am pretty healthy.  I am unable to stand or walk at all without my crutches and cannot use a rotator/walker as I cannot balance well enough to push something in front of me. I can only walk a few yards even with the crutches and use a mobility scooter, which lives in the boot of my car, most of the time outside the house. I'd be lost without it. Over the years I've tried a number of natural remedies but never found anything which helped the pain.
