Hi every one I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for about 20 years now. It used to be very well controlled but in the last lock down I suffered with shingles, and since then my sugars have been running high, 12 - 18 . I have struggled to get them down, this week running at 9 -12.. I am feeling terrible no energy can't sleep, ne interest in anything. Finally I have an appointment with the doctors but only for blood tests with the nurse.
The only thing that has kept me going has been my meditation practice. About four years ago I became interested in Kadampa Buddhism, this has been a life saver for me with all my medical conditions. If any body is struggling with any medical conditions this will help you cope. It is not a cure, this I must stress, but it is a valuable coping mechanism . I now realise that there are a lot of people much more worse off than myself, so I now try to focus on others and not myself.

Alien125 that is s good attitude to have. By thinking of others it focuses your mind on other things than your own health. Just don't do what I have done in the past and concentrate so much on other people that you forget or don't bother to look after yourself. At 62 I ought to know better but I still do things like not taking my medicines on time. I find mindfulness and some of the breathing exercises help me especially at night.

Hi JazzyC
I agree with you, you must still look after yourself. If you need motivation to do this, do it so that you don't become a burden to other people. Yes I am terrible at remembering my medication as well, fortunately I have a fantastic wife who is very good at making sure that I do take my medication at the correct time. She will even phone me to remind me when she is away. I am so lucky.

My wife is as absent minded as me, if not worse as always forgetting her medicines. Simple methods to remind ourselves are available from coloured marks on our clocks, writing things down, my Dad use to write on his pill packaging. These days eBay have solutions like pill boxes, timers etc. even combined devices, even a simple alarm clock or oven timer if you can standing the constant ticking. Diabetics have less excuses as most of our medicines need to be taken with or after food. I take liquid metformin that tastes like awful, so is a constant reminder of dread but still forget, stay safe!
