Hello, I do use the some sugar free foods, or reduced sugar jam, just a half teaspoon for a treat.
I once bought a diabetic jam called 'Thursday Cottage' which was really nice, but one day I could not find it, so I emailed them, and when asked why they had gone to reduced sugar, " It was easier for them to just do the reduced sugar",I pointed out that even this caused my blood sugar to rise, I told them I was disappointed at their change of product, letting down all diabetics.
I sometimes have WW cheesecake desert, again as a treat,,all the yogurts I have are the no added sugar ones, which are still expensive. I just had a roast dinner with roasties,I cannot eat crimble dinner without them,,as for all other foods I avoid many of them, and when I feel hungry I have a yogurt,,and many mugs of tea throughout the day, with skimmed milk and canderel in them.
Life can become very boring when restricting what foods can be eaten and enjoyed, type 2 is a rubbish condition to have to live with, and all of use who do really work hard, good luck to all.

Another tip is to use 'back to basics' food and treats from Supermarkets. Sugar is an expensive item so cheap items don't contain a lot of it, going for sugar substituents instead. Much of reduced sugar food is a con and much higher levels of sugar than back to basics. So look at the ingredients listed and compare the sugar levels, it is quite surprising how much cheap food contains much lower levels of sugar. Much lower than reduced sugar item, biscuits are a great example and even the jam plus saving money, what more do you want?.

I avoid sugar substitutes and refined sugars. As far as I'm concerned they're two sides of a bad coin and cutting them out was the best thing I did.

I find them just ghastly! It's one of my greatest regrets that I can longer enjoy proper biscuits and cakes.

Don't buy them. When sugar is taken out of these so-called "Diabetic products" they are substituted with laxative inducing sweeteners.

I also avoid sugar-free products. I try to watch what I eat as I'm trying to slim down, but when I do indulge I'd rather go for the real sugar. At least I know what it is in that case. I don't trust sugar substitutes made in a lab, I'd rather enjoy the Mother Nature made.

Many brands now offer sugar-free products. As a diabetic, what do you think of these products? Do you recommend a particular brand? Do you often allow yourself sweets? Without sugar does not mean without carbohydrates, are you vigilant in your purchases?
