Hello everyone,

During this Coronavirus pandemic, many of us have been advised to "social distance" ourselves or even to stay at home, limiting contact with strangers, friends and even in some cases, family. No more outings to the cinema, the shops, the theatre and all those things we love to do.

We may be "stuck" at home, but let's not let it get us down!

Here are a few little ideas to help you keep busy while staying at home!

Take advantage of this time to:

  1. Call and check up on your loved ones.
  2. Get back into sport (indoors, obviously emoticon wink)! The internet is full of all kinds of tutorials and guides, there is something for everyone!
  3. Read or reread the "classics" or any other of your favourite books.
  4. Spend some time in the kitchen, recreating old recipes or testing new ones. emoticon pizza
  5. Do some spring cleaning or reorganisation.
  6. And above all, do things that make you happy! emoticon dance

What will you be doing whilst staying at home? Do you have any tips or ideas for activities? Share you thoughts or ideas below!

Take care,

Courtney

I feel as if I'm 'in prison' with the lockdown due to COVID-19... The problem is I'm too independent and too active for my metabolism! At the moment, I've been keeping myself occupied with support on social media, i.e. Facebook and Twitter, together with catching up with emails and doing voluntary editing.

We're now preparing personal stories for our Epinews Winter 2020 issue, which I voluntarily edit on behalf of Epilepsy South Africa.

Please keep healthy, safe and positive; that mind must stay occupied!

@lesmal Hello Les, thank you for your comment! I think we can all relate to that feeling.

Sorry I'm a bit late today with our daily activity. But today I come bearing some advice from the organisation queen herself, Marie Kondo!

Marie Kondo Organises a Junk Drawer, Apartment Therapy

Don't we all have a drawer, or in my case a whole wardrobe, where we put those things that don't seem to have their place? Well in this video Marie shows us some good techniques for finally getting a hand on that mess!

Let us all know if you try her organisation tricks!

Take care,

Courtney

Loved the video of the Junk Drawer... It's amazing what we keep in our drawers.

Clear out time keeps us occupied for ages!

Hello everyone!

How are you today? The weekend is quickly approaching and the weather forecast maybe calling for some nice spring weather. emoticon sun

It's recommended to get at least 10 to 15 minutes of sunshine per day. So for the lucky ones who have a garden or outdoor space, take advantage if you can! For the others, standing near a sunny window also counts. emoticon wink

Today's little activity: karaoke! What a better way to ring in the weekend than by singing some of our favourite songs! You can do this alone or with others, it's always a lot of fun.

Here is a small selection of classics across the decades:

Karaoke 60's, 70's, 80's & 90's

Are you going to give it a try? What's your favourite decade for music? emoticon music-note

Take care,

Courtney

Queen has always been one of my favourite bands! I could listen to Freddie Mercury's music all day long; I loved both his singing and the band, and still play videos regularly! Michael Jackson's music still gets played via U-Tube often and the music in the 70s, 80s and 90s was fantastic. I was only a toddler in the 60s so cannot vouch for that era!

Today, we have rap music which I cannot listen to. Regret, the mixture of words to me is not like the beautiful jazz, opera, rock, country music and more we had several years' ago.

Perhaps I'm still old-fashioned, but good old music is for me... And at this stage of crisis in our lives, I also want to 'break free!'

Love you all! Stay safe and healthy!

Hello everyone,

What did you do this weekend to stay busy? I managed to get a little time in the sun by planting some seeds I had lying around! emoticon clover

Today's activity idea takes place in the kitchen! Here is a simple recipe for some breakfast cookies!

3-INGREDIENT BANANA OATMEAL BREAKFAST COOKIES

This period is difficult enough as it is, we may as well indulge! emoticon cake Let us know if you try out the recipe!

Take care,

Courtney

When the weather is nice I see the sun is out and it's not too windy and warm I'll be outside in the morning doing a bit in the front garden and every afternoon between 2 - 3 pm going into the greenhouse and sowing some seeds so then when I get back indoors my husband is ready with my cup of tea and biscuits.

When the weather isn't conducive for a foray in the garden, I've got a list, (huge), of sorting out to do in my bedroom. Then I'll get started on bathroom followed by the guest room then finally help my son do his room..... That should keep me busy, of course factoring in ache & pains time!

As I have been housebound and alone for years now the current situation doesn't make much difference to me other than finding it much harder to get groceries delivered. Most supermarkets are simply not able to cope with the demand for deliveries. Thenkfully I bought some extra things like pasta before the lockdown but getting fresh goods is nigh impossible.  And eggs of course.  Keeping busy is not an option with severe ME as I have little energy to do more than the basics of getting up and making sure I eat and drink.  The main problem I have now is being unable to use Facebook to chat with friends as I made a mistake and now they think I'm someone trying to hack into my account. This has made the isolation total and hard to take.  But no doubt I'll survive. I watch a lot of interesting lectures on YouTube to preserve my sanity.

@hochiwich‍

Hi

If you are disable and house bound, you should be on a Government list of  "At Risk for Vulnerable people. Did you have a letter from your surgery to say so? have you any underlining health conditions? There is help available for Vulnerable people. There is a web site to go on, and register yourself. You will then be sent an Emergency box of supplies with fresh food delivered to your house. Check with your surgery first and then register yourself on the At Risk register for vulnerable people. It varies from area to area. I don;t know what part of the country you reside.  You can only register, if you have had a letter from our surgery or from the Government. Hope this helps

Good luck
