Great news. I am in a similar situation but my consultant is of the opinion that prostate cancer cells can develop an immunity to the hormone so he is likely to go for a break in treatment. Ten years since my operation so looks like a slow growing cancer. Good luck for the future.

Hi all, I have now finished my treatment for prostate cancer. I've had HDR brachytherapy and then 4.5 weeks of external radiotherapy. All my treatment was carried out in a caring, professional and respectful way by the NHS staff at Southend University Hospital. I was first diagnosed with prostate cancer after a routine psa test, the highest being 8.7. I was given MRI scan which showed a shadow on the left side of my prostate. My consultant sent me for a biopsy which showed low level cancer and a Gleeson score of 3/4. My treatment was to go on 3 monthly hormone injections, then 4.5 weeks of external radiotherapy and then HDR brachytherapy. I was lucky to have a window due to cancellations to have HDR brachytherapy first, which I accepted, just 2 days in hospital and at this time my psa had reduced to 1.7, then 0.7. This was followed by daily external radiotherapy of 15 mins and my last psa following radiotherapy is 0.02. I will be having another meeting with my consultant on 25th January 2018 and will be on hormone treatment for a further year. I must say I cannot fault the treatment my NHS team have given me. I do hope my experience will give you some comfort and support. Kind wishes to all sufferers and your loved ones. mikesalmons

Have now been on monthly hormone injections instead of 3 monthly injections. My last one will be on 5th October. Next psa test will be 31st October before I meet my consultant on 8th November 2018. If my psa level is the same as last two tests, undetectable, I will be on yearly psa tests.
