Hello all,

I hope you are all doing well. emoticon bashful

As you know, the coronavirus affects everyone, regardless of age or origin. However, some people are at greater risk of developing severe complications if infected. In particular, people with chronic illnesses.

In the case of diabetes (type 1 or type 2), being ill can make your blood sugar level rise as your body tries to fight the illness and give you energy. This means you’re more at risk of having serious blood sugar highs and lows, as well as longer-term issues with your feet, eyes and other parts of the body.

If you show coronavirus symptoms, such as fever, monitor your blood sugar levels carefully. Fever from any cause is a destabilising factor in diabetes. Some of you may be concerned about insulin shortages. To date, the Government states: "At this stage, no problems of access to medicines have been reported in relation to the COVID-19 Coronavirus epidemic in France, nor in Europe. »

The purpose of this discussion is to allow you to exchange, advise and support each other.

How are you handling self-isolation? Are you afraid for your health? Have you had any specific advice from your doctors? Have you had difficulties getting your medications at the pharmacy?

Feel free to share with us all here!

Take care,

Courtney

Hi, I take insulin and I also have chronic pancreatitis. I am a care worker and am still working but only with one low risk service user. I am pretty scared of getting covid 19 to be honest. I am 49 years old and already have problems with loss of sensation in my feet and little fingers. I was worried about this before the outbreak, now sometimes it consumes me.  I have one son,18, training to be a nurse. I have a fear of getting sick and being carted off in an ambulance and never seeing him again. I take proper precautions and try to keep my blood sugar tight as I can but historically I didn’t take care of myself. I would love to hear about other people’s experiences and feelings at this time. Thank you.

Hi, I’m a type 1 diabetic and have been for 18years now.

i work as a response domestic in my local nhs hospital, I go and clean room that have infected patients in them( high risk) and they have taken me off my team to put me at low risk and to follow social distancing, however I feel more at risk as I am being placed at more harm on general corridors where everyone is walking and inadequate ppe. I have explained this to my Gp who has wrote me a letter to stay off for 12 weeks. I have high blood pressure too and this isn’t helping. I’m 43 next week.
It’s a scary place at the minute, keep safe everyone. 🌈🌈🌈

Michelle

How are you today? emoticon cute

How are you managing your diabetes now? Is it more complicated this time of year? Have you returned to a "normal life" after these few months of lockdown?

Feel free to share! We are here to help each other!

Although some of my levels go high, I manage to get them down, but also trying to lose weight, which would also do me good, the only problem with lockdown was at the beginning when they said once a day exercise, , where I was going out for a short walk in the morning with my husband, and in the afternoon going to the shops with my son, but walking to the shops to get extra exercise,

Hello everyone,

I thought I would come back to this discussion and see how everyone is doing in lockdown?

How are you holding up? Have you changed anything in your daily routine from last lockdown? Have you had any advice from your doctor or the NHS?
