Morphine has helped in pain relief but if you miss a couple of tablets or capsules you get horrid side effects. I am free of pain for a couple of hours before the pain is back with a vengeance and I hate the side effects the morphine gives you

I was already taking Oxycodone for joint pain when I began having shin/ankle breakthrough pain at night and my GP suggested Oramorph to take the edge off for me.
I was reluctant about adding another opiate, but wow! What a difference it has made to my life; I only take it once every couple of months, and it works immediately, with no side effects (I have never, ever, had a "high" from any opioid), and I get a good nights sleep with no after effects. A bottle lasts me around 4 months and my GP prescribes it by request rather than add it to my repeat prescription list.

How has morphine changed your daily life? It's made it livable meaning I have virtually no pain, I do not wake up at night I am able to do normal household duties within reason.
What kind of impact has it had on your independence, routines, or mental health? The impact is I can go shopping on my own which means my husband can be at work. I find pain to be a huge hindrance when it comes to mental health pain can supersede everything.
Have you experienced side effects, and what’s helped you manage them? My side effects are constipation and I am prescribed another drug (docusate).
How do you stay organized with your treatment and communicate with your doctor about what’s working and what isn’t? What is working is I can contact my GP very quickly using e-consult & The rheumatology department with a telephone call. What doesn't serve me is another pharmacist trying to change my drugs by telling me what will and won't work for me!

Hi everyone 👋
For many people living with chronic pain, morphine or other opioid-based treatments can offer real relief, a way to finally breathe, move, or sleep without being constantly overwhelmed by pain.
But it’s rarely as simple as just “taking a pill.” The experience of being on morphine is often complex: it can be a lifeline, a last resort, a source of comfort, or even a source of stress, sometimes all at once.
So today, we wanted to open up a space to talk honestly about what it’s really like.

Whether you're currently taking morphine, have used it in the past, or are considering it as a next step, your insights could really help someone else feel less alone in their journey 💛
Take care,
