Hi @PeterC,
Thank you for sharing this. First of all, I’m really glad to hear the surgery itself went well. That’s no small thing. The waiting period for results can feel endless and frustrating, and it's completely understandable to worry about the mental side of things. ED, the impact on your identity, confidence, and relationships are no aren’t small concerns by any measure.
I'll go ahead an tag a few members to hear what they have to say, in case they missed this discussion:
- Has anyone else struggled mentally in the weeks after TURP or prostate surgery?
- How did you handle the waiting for pathology results?
- Did anything help you steady your thoughts while you waited?

On Wednesday 11th February I underwent radical TURP surgery to treat my prostate condition. The surgery went well but there are some effects of the procedure that are still playing on my mind.
My surgeon told me that he has left a small amount of the prostate but removed about 80% to make my life easier. He was excellent in giving me lots of information and advice for what happens next, but I am still worried about the time it takes for the pathology results to come back.
I know this procedure causes impotence and ED, but I am worried about my mental health with the situation. I have a follow up with the surgeon in a few weeks and he will go through the options for therapy and any further questions I have. In the meantime I’m finding that there are lots of unanswered questions I have that are playing on me.
any advice would be appreciated.
