Hi everyone,
If you live with chronic pain, you’ve probably heard of or been prescribed medications like pregabalin (Lyrica) or gabapentin (such as Neurontin). They're commonly used for nerve pain, fibromyalgia, and other long-term conditions.
But a new study has raised concerns: In people aged 65 and older, pregabalin was linked to a 48% higher risk of heart failure, and an 85% higher risk for those with a history of cardiovascular disease, compared to gabapentin.
⚠️ That doesn’t mean pregabalin is “bad,” but it does suggest we need clearer conversations around risks, especially for older adults or those with heart concerns. The study authors recommend more careful screening before prescribing pregabalin to people with heart conditions.
💬 Let’s talk about it:
📌 Chronic pain management isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every option comes with pros and cons, and your lived experience matters.
Feel free to share your story, ask questions, or just read along. We're here for each other.
Take care,
Somya from the Carenity team 🌼
