Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a rare and often aggressive type of soft tissue sarcoma that starts in smooth muscle cells. Smooth muscle is found in organs and structures such as the uterus, gastrointestinal tract, blood vessels, bladder and abdomen. The cancer may grow silently for some time before causing symptoms such as pain, swelling, a lump or problems linked to the part of the body affected.
