Nineteen_gale. My left knee is bone on bone but I have got used to the grinding noises that emit when I stand up. Get some horrified looks from strangers though. Have had a tkr on right knee and this is now more painful than my left knee. I was told by a registrar “0h well sometimes it doesn’t work for the best”. I’m still pursuing it though.

@Jennyh44 @nineteen_gale It can be so difficult sometimes trying to find the right medication/treatment and can be a game of trial and error.
It is good to keep pursuing and to regularly check back in with your doctor to explore different options.

Have you checked with an Orthopod about the pain in the groin? Its unusual that you get that after the Steroid injection. Have you had your hip checked, as you do get a lot of groin pain associated with hip joint. Just a thought. Worth checking out. It sounds cruel when you are in so much pain, to tell you that you need to exercise that joint. but some sort of gentle movements that you can tolerate, would help and increase the movements as you feel fit. Just standing in the shallow side of the swimming pool and moving your painful limb about would help a great deal, as you are weightless in water and it hurts much less.
Good luck

Hi all,
Does anyone have any ideas on pain relief for arthritis in the foot which prevents me from walking normally. This as well as 2 arthritic knees is causing me a lot of pain.
Thanks, Anne.

I've had three steroid injections 1st 2012 right knee brilliant lasted three months wonderful pain free had a 2nd one same knee six months later nothing, no relief at all 2013 was about to go into surgery on my right knee but the anesthetist stopped the operation because of my breathing wasn't good, 2015 I had a stroke 2016 I saw the orthopedic surgeon again this time for my left knee, because of my other health issues he didn't recommend surgery😢
2019 I had my third steroid injection in my left knee this time the relief was for only a fortnight, so I'm between a rock and a hard place, because of other health issues I can't have surgery, for the same reason there are a lot of pain relief meds I can't have and I don't rate the steroid injections, on the plus side I wake ⏰up every morning😀👍

Had 3 steroid injections, 2 in hip the 1st in hip put me hospital for 48hrs couldn't breath not a nice experience! .... so a 2nd was done by guided scan neither worked! The 3rd was done December 2020 base of thumb which has left a bony lump & hand is just same but thats me..... they don't work for everyone but aware there a life saver for others & also aware they can speed the effects of osteoarthritis in some individuals ( research) Bone Smart & arthritis verus osteoarthritis.....I have Generalised osteoarthritis

I have had facet join5 injections in my lumbar spine and they were most effective in relieving pain. They are really painful to get done but so worth it just for relief! They tend to last 6 to 9 months before needing done again . I have also had steroid injections in my hips , thumbs and generic steroid injections . I always get relief from localised steroid injection , but not so much from generic or systemic ones. I am now on oral steroids, which at 20 msg are helping , but when reduced they don’t help so much .

Hi. New to the group,I have ostiiarthritis plus sciatica and tendonitis. For this happy arrangement I'm on morphine patches ,have been for around 20 years. Last night which makes the 3rd Time ever I was cold turkey as the heat just peels away the patches by making me sweat more moist than anything . But I have an arrangement that I have 4extra 5mg patches for as and when I need them cos if you run out before the alloted date boy ,are you in trouble. And going cold turkey at the thanks to the NHS is just great. The hell can i do to stop them coming off my arm , and they are taped on. But that's my night last night ,shaking twitching sweating as the house is like an oven an to top it all, I've been in a flare up for the last week. So if any one out there goes through the same ,ehatr do you do if you have no patch?????

Hi, all I can say is the meds help for a while, it's all about knowing what your pain tolerance is. And no t taking meds all the time. Stretches physiotherapy etc always made mine worse 1 hour session would put me on my back for 2 days. Every week for 6 months they never listen when you tell them.

If your osteoarthritis is extremely painful, steroid injections can be a solution for relieving pain, especially in the smaller joints, like you fingers or knees.
The advantage of these injections is their reactivity: the improvement happens withing hours and can last several weeks and even months.
The drawback, however, is quite considerable: steroid injections can cause serious side effects, among which weight gain, high blood pressure, greater risk of infection, etc.
Have you already had steroid injections? In which joint? How quickly did you feel the positive results and how long has it lasted or did it last? What about side effects? Have you had any?
