Hello all,

I haven't been on in a while since I've been busy, but with this coronavirus business I've become a bit worried. Since the virus is so hard on the respiratory system I'm worried that my inhalers (I'm on Ventolin and Qvar) are putting me at a greater risk. Do you think we should cut down our use of them? Especially the Qvar? I've heard that steroids really do a number on the immune system. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice?

Thanks.

@Beverle I'm sorry you're going through all of that, these are certainly stressful, anxiety-inducing times. Thank you for being brave and helping keep us all fed. From what I've seen in articles and in the news, fever is a major part of the infection. Have you noticed that you're feverish? But if you're having more problems breathing then usual you may want to try to ring your GP!  Stay safe.

Hi guys, I’m new on here and currently self isolating, I am a mental health nurse so social distancing is non existent in my job role. I currently take ventolin and fostair inhalers and have had steroid treatment 3 times within the period of July to December, in order to get the letter to shield you have to have had the steroid tablets 4 times. I am really very anxious and refuse to return back to work. If someone has a cold/flu like symptoms in the past guaranteed I get it and it goes straight on my chest resulting in time of work, I cannot understand why I have not had the letter because I know that if I got this virus I would end up in hospital. As with everyone this is a very worrying time with no easy solution and no end date in sight as of yet. Hope everyone is well. TIA for your responses 😊

Hi @tracy7,

I also work in health care, I'm off sick as Asthma has flared up with the stress of Covid19. I think the government should allow all people with Asthma to self isolate, as if I get a cold, I end up on antibiotics & steroids with a bad chest infection!

Have you rang your doctor?

Best wishes.

Claire

Hello. Tracy71. I believe your health is bad enough to just Self Isolation. You have to balance your life. A friend she kept to rules until went into work just 2 nights. In old people home. She has ended in hospital now! First it was considered cough and cold, then into Intensive Care, started recovering and moved out before Test which became Positive meaning Invasive care ward. Now it’s Red ward. Seriously struggling. They moved likely too quickly as so many waiting for bed but also leave in infectious risk dangerous Need intermediary ward. Temp. finally controlled.Parents obviously devastated as it’s to do with blood and cells which white is overtaking. I offered blood as 99% sure clear as in 12 weeks Self Isolation. Which I keep too. Because on Steroids inhalers Fostairs strength recently doubled of course life saving Ventolin. Add in Beconase and Respimat. Aneurysm in main left heart artery. Also Chronic Asthma reached Stage 2. Whatever that is? Therefore you have to make decisions about your own health. Your only one who can decide risk. Be career after this COVID19. But your looking at 18 months plus. Likely many 1000s more. You have only one life so ask yourself has Government done enough to protect your life? Take care always. Seems only message writing to everyone now! Hopefully LockDown remains in place protecting lives. It government to country future.

@Healthiswealth

Patients with underlying health conditions, including asthma and diabetes, have been instructed by the Government to take extreme measures to shield themselves from the coronavirus (Covid-19), starting this weekend.

Yesterday Prime Minister Boris Johnson said anyone over 70, pregnant women and people with certain underlying health conditions making them more vulnerable to serious Covid-19 complications, should isolate themselves for at least 12 weeks starting this weekend.

hope this helps
