Hello @Pammy77‍

Thank you for starting a discussion.

For those who weren't aware, mesothelioma is a cancer that affects the thin tissue (called "mesothelium") that covers some of our internal organs and those at risk have often been exposed to asbestos, although some are predisposed due to genetic factors. It's also more common in the UK than in other parts of Europe.

Members, has anyone else been affected by this illness or know someone who has? Do you have experiences or questions of your own you could share?

Take care,

Michael

Hello love, I'm sorry I never heard of this. Is it very rare?

YES it's rare, caused by asbestos. Usually only gets diagnosed when it's at advanced stage. It can lay dormant in the body for 30- 60 years. Usually older people diagnosed who were exposed to asbestos years ago. It was banned in 1980's. Limited treatment for it. I'm about to start chemo but that is only to slow the cancer down or ease symptoms. There is no cure and and I'm not expected to live more than 6months
