Hi everyone,

How are you feeling today?

For many people, a cancer diagnosis comes as a shock, especially when it’s uncovered during a routine test, a check-up for something unrelated, or even a gut feeling that something wasn’t quite right.

💬 Let’s open up:

  • Was your diagnosis the result of a regular screening, or did something unexpected lead to it?
  • Did you have symptoms that were brushed off at first, or none at all?
  • Looking back, is there anything you wish had been checked sooner?

My friend had a few waterworks problems and had a PSA test. It was very high 18 . He had a biopsy but it proved negative. Had another test and was still high, had another biopsy and again proved negative. (He is a cyclist and that does make a difference). I then decided to have a PSA test and it was 5, about right for my age. My doctor advised to come back in 3 months time and it was 8. So I had MRI scan and biopsy and found something on my prostate. It had not spread , so I was put on brachytherapy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. After 9 years my PSA is still less than 0.01 and have one more year to discharge. So in a nutshell it was down to my friend's visit to the same family Doctor.
