@Courtney_J For me, it's definitely the breathlessness. I used to be so active and did all kinds of sport, but I struggle just walking up stairs.

Hi, mine is the dry\chesty cough that comes along with asthma joined with hayfever.  Sometimes makes me feel like eating, constantly drinking water to hide it. Definitely during this COVID time.

@KrazyKhick Yes, I agree! I've felt very subconscious about being breathless and having a cough out in public since this has all started, especially when I have to take my mask off when it's giving me trouble. I make sure to cough into my elbow and I try to drink lots of water like you said, but I think people are so paranoid they think I have COVID!

Hi people are very paranoid I had a full blown argument with a lady in our local supermarket I do not wear a mask my asthma is bad and I suffer from clostrophobia really badly so wearing a mask sets my asthma off more anyway this lady started arguing that bad we had to have security involved she said i shouldn't be out of the house i shouldn't go anywhere i was putting her at risk i can understand where she is coming from but I don't go shopping anymore I get everything delivered the lady and security guard have made me feel like i need to stay in i am struggling now just to take my children to school avoiding walking near anybody

@Anniedee That's terrible that you went through that. I think tensions are still very high amongst us all so some people can forget their empathy and kindness at home.

I can't stand the coughing and wheezing either. I struggle with my weight because I can't be very active, and because of my weight my asthma is worse. I can't win.

I’ve got severe asthma and still wear a face mask as I feel that I want to protect others as well as my self. I’ve got an oximeter and tested my oxygen levels whilst wearing a face mask and I have not had any change in my blood oxygen levels at all. The only thing I find a bit uncomfortable is the fact that I get a funny taste i my mouth and get bad breathe from wearing a face mask and that I can get bad acne from it. It’s not the nicest thing to wear in the world and I fully understand how some people can get anxious from wearing one which can then cause breathlessness.

@Anniedee that's awful. You shouldn't have to explain to anyone why you aren't wearing a mask plus no one should be treated in such a way.  I have purchased a lanyard from either Amazon or EBay with "ASTHMATIC MASK EXEMPT" written on it.  It has made a huge difference to how how people treat me in the street & shops.  However, a Drs surgery won't let me in without a mask, absolute madness!

Hi I've just can across this discussion. I'm also bad asthmatic but 2 years ago I started an injection at my hospital respiratory clinic and my life has been completely changed. I no longer cough or wheeze and yes I do get challenged walking uphill etc but my life is 💯 times better. I do get the odd infection and have to get antibiotics and  steroids about 2/3 times a year but this is such a change from being on them back to back. I've got a life now all be it in shielding since march but I'm happy and healthy. I still choose to wear a mask as I only do SHORT local shop visits so I know what I need get it and get out!!

I inject myself every 4 weeks with the mepoizumab (Shortened mepo) if it helps you could ask your respiratory consultant about it and if it's severe enough you may be eligible

Stay safe Gilly 💕
