Hi All,

New here figured id say hey and share my story and what I am experiencing at the moment

Im still quite young and I was made redundant from a job which I enjoyed for the most part back in mid February this year. I work in finance and I had a good friends where I used to work but the job itself the months leading up to the redundancy really were the worst, everyone and myself included had low morale and just wanted to leave, personally I found it very difficult to get up everyday and I had no motivation to work at all. I wasnt appreciated and the work had impossible deadlines, the only thing that kept me going was the people.

And then it happened, 4 of us were made redundant the same day, I still keep in contact with everyone but others do not share that. It took ten weeks of job searching going to multiple interviews every week day and being constantly on the phone til I landed a job which I felt was right for me.

Currently I am two months into my new role and even though I am in a higher position problems persist, every day I dread the next day, I have been dumped a project where management have barely explained anything made promises of 'holding my hand' throughout the process. I have been pressured into chasing people for paperwork and to deal with a third party for this project I barely have any idea about with the worry something will go wrong and my normal work has a massive backlog due to this project. I often think about going to sleep and hoping not to wake up, I have an insane dread of going to work everyday and very few people I can open up to about this properly

I feel I can get through this, but my gut instinct is telling me my future lies elsewhere. At the moment I have lost interest in a lot of things and overall I feel quite down

Thanks for taking the time to read my story

Sorry to read about your redundancy. I was facing the same thing along with anxiety depression , health issues , my sister being diagnosed with cancer and my elderly dad being ill.

The weeks leading up to the redundancy were horrible and like you it was hard to feel motivated. Work was no longer the same.

Thankfully, regarding work I looked at it in the "as one door closes ,another door opens" attitude. I looked at it as the right time to re evaluate what I wanted to do as I wanted a change in direction. It was outside my comfort zone but it was the best thing that I have ever done although it was scary.

It is sad that you are feeling overwhelmed in your new position.

Have you decided where your true vocation is yet? If so, go for it.

We spend so much time at work and so you need to be happy in it.

It is wrong that the Company has basically got you under false promises then it isn't the role that was portrayed in the interview. You need to mention your concerns to your superior . Asking for help isn't a negative; especially if you are new to the role. You really do need to voice your concerns.

Are you on a Probationary period?

It would only be of benefit to be following your gut instinct; sooner rather than later. A bonus could also be that if you make moves to apply for other positions then you may feel some of the pressure that you are facing reduces.

Health is so important in life.

Please look after yourself.

Take Care. xx

I worked for 28 years for same company.  I was comfortable as it had became such a routine that I could do it without thinking about it. Even with depression.

Then got new top boss and had to do new things and make targets.  I could not cope with learning new things. I could not remember all the details. I was getting more stressed and anxious.  Being observed by management at my job did not help. They stood directly behind me. After an armed robbery at work  15 years ago I cannot cope with someone standing right behind me.  That triggered the first of 3 suicide attempts.  Things did not improve at work and eventually I had to give up work.

That was December and I have only now been able to go to nearby shops by myself.

It must have been such a hard period of your life. I can't even begin to imagine how terrifying the armed robbery was.

I do hope that you received the care you needed following your ordeal?

Well done on being able to go to your local shops. There really is no time scale on recovery but you have proven that you can overcome what have running through your mind.

You will get to were you wish to in time. Little by little, day by day will get you there in time.

I wish you well ; try and look at it all as the start of a new chapter in your life.

As the saying goes; As one door closes, another door opens.

When the time is right this will happen; I speak from experience.

Big hugs.x

Thank you itgetsbetter.

15years ago there was not the help you get now. After the robbery the doctor gave me valium and 2 weeks off work.  There was no other help.

This was not really dealt with until recently.

I do not know what direction to go in now as cannot do the type of job i did for all of my working life so far.

I have to remember not to rush things because I push myself too hard and have set backs.

Take care

Oh my life !! It just goes to show how mental health attitudes have improved; thank goodness.

Many years ago I suffered from 2 miscarriages in various stages of pregnancy. I was sent on my way; no one asked me how I was feeling, nor did I receive any type of aftercare.

You are at a stage in your life that I too faced. I gave up a career in nursing to raise my family. Fast forward 30 years , my now ex committed adultery and lived a lie for the following 3 years. I was divorced, on a low income as I had found a part time job to help us when he was made redundant, my sons were also at various stages of education. I didn't even know who supplied our utilities as my now ex was totally in control of anything financial.

Despite having a wonderful network of friends/family I felt so alone and so frightened, especially when I was then facing redundancy.

Like you are now, I didn't know what direction to turn too. I didn't want to return to nursing  Well meaning folk would tell me about various jobs as I needed money .I was overwhelmed by everything. Every way I turned people were telling me what I should be doing.

My advice to you my friend is to bide your time. Get yourself mentally to where you need to be; focused.

I am a firm believer in the saying "As one door closes, another door opens".

I eventually went right outside my comfort zone and accepted the invitation to go along to a club for young adults/adults with learning difficulties with a view to working there one evening a week. I loved it . I then had the opportunity to fill in an application to work for a charity as a support worker. I passed my interview carried out by the young people. I have never looked back and I still love my jobs,

You will know when the time is right for "You"; no one else.

Don't let yourself become overwhelmed wondering what to do. It will come out of the blue and you will know that it is the job for you.

Make sure that you are ready, start small ; little by little ,day by day.

Big hugs wrapped with love. x
