I'm on fostair 200/6 and montelukast. I haven't received the letter but am shielding for 12 weeks as I get very bad chest infections just from a cold, they take around 4 to 6 weeks to clear which means I'd be off sick. I work for the NHS and am lucky enough to be able to carry out my role from home

@Perdita1708 Will I get paid if I self isolate with no GP letter. I'm at moderate risk with my asthma and take 1-2 chest infections a yr,

I am really confused, I have mild asthma Im on the brown preventer and ventolin, my doctor said I can work as long as I follow strict social distancing. That is impossible as nurse in a care home and also we don't have adequate personal protection. The anxiety of all of this is making my asthma worse and I have prednisolone prescribed should I need it. What makes me scared is that my asthma is so unpredictable I've have two bad attacks where I had such short of breathe had to go to A & E. am I within my rights to want to self-isolate even though I'm not classed as having severe asthma? When I had my attacks they came out of nowhere and it scared me so much.

@Frusnup if u contact ur gp they can issue you with a letter for your employer apparently although I have not tried this yet, but if u feel u need to self isolate I would. Xx

@Healthiswealth I'm not sure it would depend on your employer, but the gov have said they will pay 80 % of wages to certain places so maybe worth looking into, my employer furloughed me so I get full wages as my company pay me the 20% and the gov 80%. Go on the government wedsite they give clearer guidelines on wages etc. Stay safe x
