Hello everyone,

I am interested in hearing about what triggers your asthma? Is it several things?  And what do you do to prevent it?

Good day to you all,

Marina

Hi everyone...I was diagnosed with Asthma at 6 years old, 1952 to be exact. Lots of things can trigger Asthma, all those that have been mentioned. Stress, worry and arguments and hot or cold weather, flowers ect... can trigger it too, medications and more...

Best Wishes

Do you mean, tight painful squeeze in the lungs or chest, so tight you can't breath!?

I've had that a few times. One time it only lasted about a minute and another it last for about 10 - 20 minutes. I was taken to A&E and was told it was muscle spasm and it is expected with Asthma. I do the breathing exercises which help a lot.

If you are worried about what is happening to you, you should go to see your GP about it. I know it can be scary.

Best Wishes

Hello everybody!

All information on asthma triggers is still more than welcome here! For example, what can you tell us about food that can trigger an asthma attack? Have you already had an asthma attack due to a food allergy?

P.S. Here is a nice Youtube video listing the main products that you should avoid if you have asthma: Foods to avoid if you have asthma

We are waiting for your stories!

Hello Carenity Members! emoticon dance

In her speech to Parliament last Monday, the Queen stated that new measures will be introduced to improve air and water quality in the UK. This is a welcome move by the government since recent data on air pollution in the UK shows that 83 per cent of reporting zones have air pollution levels higher than the legal limits. These limits are also at least two times higher than guidelines set by the World Health Organisation.

Have your asthma symptoms been triggered by higher than usual air pollution lately? Especially with the autumn damp and humidity which tends to trap pollutants closer to the surface? emoticon rain

Tell us how about it!

Fellow members - I tagged you on this comment just in case you have something to add. Cheers!

Changes in the weather really bother me now, things like fresh cut grass which never bothered me when I was younger, paint ,dust, stress , animals,  strong smells like perfumes aftershave and when I go to church incense flowers especially Lilly's and also exercise depending on how I've been that day.

Thanks, @mjteddy‍ for your comment. Yes, it seems like weather changes trigger a lot of people's symptoms. Is air quality relatively decent in your area?

Asthma is an umbrella term for related conditions which are classified by the main triggers. These are bronchial, weather, stress, environment, allergic, exercise and genetic. Within each group there are a number of sub groups if you like so for example allergic can include food, dust mites, perfumes smoke and vapping, certain chemicals or preservatives

Then there are some like me who have multi triggers and they have what is called non specific asthma. In my case I have every type except genetic. As this is more understood and better tests developed to pinpoint exactly what type of asthma you have treatments can be tailored to the individual. Non specific is the most difficult to treat but by focusing on one major type of asthma trigger things can be controlled better. In my case I wss put on xolair injections for the allergy side of my asthma and for the first time in 15 years I am off predisinole steroids ( 8 months and counting).

I hope this maybe helps some of you to understand your asthma better

Better than it was Michael b as no pits or chemical works pumping fumes into the air as there was when I was younger, but having worked in factories for all my working life inside these places needs a lot of work to clean up the air
