Hi Raindrops
I get you. What's really hard is that most of the time it is family events and yet I still don't want to go. I don't want to have to a long conversation about old times, old times are a trigger for me that they don't know about but they think are great.
I'm a mess at 61, a shut in. No, none of that fun and laughter with family and friends for me.
Hope it all works out for you though. Best wishes and blessings.

I am usually stressed and depressed, when i have to attend any event including a "happy" event. My low self esteem and weak self image etc prevent me from being my true self and enjoying the happy event. Recently I attended a Choral selection of sacred themes, but I could not relax and attend to enjoying the music and song because I felt depressed and ill at ease, so I did not enjoy the event. I like quietness, where I can relax and be myself, but I would prefer to enjoy a social gathering, as we are led to believe that basically we are social beings who enjoy meeting people at various social venues. Recently I attended counselling and I was advised that I should just enjoy my own company as I am now 79 years and it is unlikely that I will change much now.

I take each day as it comes, try to have a focus for that day. Today is pretty good, but it gives me a nudge every now and again. H

AmbassadorLizzie when we loss loved ones some people are expecting to grieve in the same way with each bereavement, and are even more upset because they dont. this can be for many reasons, for example it could be the age of the loved one, how close you were to a certain person, how well they physically or emotionally knew a loved one. or lastly some of us may never have met a loved one for many reasons. or if physical events had taken place ,and a loved one could not be viewed by family and friends
this happened me was because, my son and i parted with bad blood between us, and when his baby daughter was born , and died age 50 minutes i was banned from attending her service or internment, her name was Rebecca Jade, but i called her Becky, and i bought her a small headstone and i go to her grave at least once a month with fresh flowers. i will always love my grandaughter, but possibly not as much as my Angel wife or son, who took his own life.?

I was not always this depressed. I used to be fun and I had a lot of friends. I still get invited to birthdays and weddings. I want to go, but the fear and sadness of my depression usually stops me. I think it's so much harder to go to happy events while I'm dying inside. Happy people, pictures, smiling. I hate that I can't feel the way everyone else does. I've stopped going., but not going makes me even more depressed. ... it's such a bad cycle. Does anyone else have this struggle? I'd love some advice.
